NFC Top 3 Matchups- Week 10
The 2010 NFL regular season begins its second half of play this week and the NFC is almost as wide-open has it was in Week 1. New York (6-2) and Atlanta (6-2) have established themselves as the front-runners, but with the possible exception of Carolina (1-7) and Dallas (1-7), the other 12 teams in the conference all still have a legitimate shot at winning their division. Things are so tight (and bad) in the West that an Arizona win over Seattle combined with a St. Louis loss to San Francisco would create a three-way tie atop the division at 4-5 with the 49ers just one game back at 3-6.
Here is a look at my top three matchups in the NFC for Week 10 of the NFL season. All odds are provided by BetUs.com.

Minnesota (-1) @ Chicago Over/Under: 40 ½
Minnesota may have salvaged its season with a dramatic 27-24 come-from-behind win over the Cardinals last week. The win also saved head coach Brad Childress’s job for another week, after he has come under fire from team ownership, some players, and the fans for his handling of the Randy Moss situation.
Chicago, on paper, has to be considered the worst 5-3 team in the league. The Bears’ offense is ranked 29th overall and 27th in scoring; averaging 18.5 points per game. Their defense is far better overall, but still ranked 19th against the pass.
The home team in this matchup is 4-0 ATS in the last four games and the Vikings are 1-6 ATS in their last seven games in Chicago. The total has gone ‘over’ in six of the last nine games of this series and the last four games in Chicago. Throw Childress back on the hot seat as Chicago gets the win at home.
Dallas @ New York (-14) Over/Under: 45 ½
Assistant head coach/offensive coordinator Jason Garrett was elevated to interim head coach when Dallas owner Jerry Jones decided to relieve Wade Phillips of his duties after the Cowboys were outscored 80-24 in their last two games in humiliating defeats to Jacksonville and Green Bay.
Statistically, New York appears to be the most complete team in the NFC. The Giants’ offense is ranked second overall; seventh in passing and third in rushing. They are averaging 27 points per game which is fourth best in the league. Defensively, they are ranked first overall; second against both the pass and the rush.
The Cowboys are 1-5 ATS in its last six games against the Giants and 1-4-1 ATS in its last six games in New York. The Giants are 4-1 ATS in its last five games against the NFC. The total has gone ‘over’ in four of the last five games between these two teams. All the trends point towards another long day for Dallas.
Philadelphia (-3) @ Washington Over/Under: 41 ½
The return of Michael Vick and DeSean Jackson to Philadelphia’s lineup paid immediate dividends in Philadelphia’s 26-24 victory over Indianapolis last Sunday. Vick completed seven passes to Jackson for 109 yards and one TD.
Overall, Washington is ranked 19th in total offense and 23rd in scoring; averaging just 19.4 points per game. Defensively, things are even worse as this unit is ranked 31st in total defense; 18th against the run and 31st against the pass. It is giving up an average of 21.2 points per game.
The road team is 6-1-1 ATS in the last eight games between these two teams. The Eagles are 10-4-1 ATS in their last 15 games in Washington, while the Redskins are 5-12-1 ATS in their last 18 home games overall. The total has stayed ‘under’ in nine of the last 14 games of this series. Take the Eagles in a romp as Donovan McNabb’s situation in Washington only gets worse.
