The college football betting week will be highlighted by what is shaping up to undoubtedly be the most exciting match up of the week, as number-one Alabama travels to number-ten Arkansas in a massive SEC clash. Both the Crimson Tide and Razorbacks are undefeated through the first two weeks of the regular season, but something will have to give as the defending national champions make their way to Fayetteville.
The Crimson Tide have looked more like a tsunami than they have a wave, ripping through all three opponents they have faced this season while never looking to be at risk of losing a single game. Alabama was without Heisman trophy-winning running back Mark Ingram the first two weeks of the season, but that made no difference as Trent Richardson looked like a Heisman trophy candidate himself in rushing for 210 football betting yards and three touchdowns in wins over San Jose State and Penn State. Ingram returned for Alabama’s week three win over Duke, but his play was more to make sure that he was in game shape than it was about performance. With both Richardson and Ingram healthy and running hard, it will be a tough task for the Razorbacks defense to slow the Crimson Tide.
Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett knows all about how difficult it is to slow down Alabama, as he participated in the Razorbacks’ loss to the Crimson Tide a year ago, one of three in a row. Mallett managed to throw for just 160 yards in that loss, and knows that he will have to do a lot better than that to have any chance of keeping it close. The junior quarterback has already thrown for over 1,000 yards and nine touchdowns this season, and enters this weekend’s betting contest poised and ready to play.
This is the first really big weekend for college football’s biggest online sports betting division. While South Carolina’s trip to Auburn is undoubtedly noteworthy, Alabama and Arkansas will be the match up of the week.
Outside of the SEC, the number-four ranked TCU heads to Southern Methodist on Friday, while number-three Boise State takes to its orange and blue field against Oregon State. While both teams rank in the top-five, the fact that they play in smaller divisions has been a hindrance to their potential to climb in the national rankings, and anything but an undefeated season will assuredly keep them out of the national championship game. Number-two Ohio State welcomes Eastern Michigan to town looking to keep the Eagles winless through their fourth game of the year, and although this isn’t the toughest task the Buckeyes are already no doubt looking ahead at a road trip to Illinois next week. Ohio State has a much easier schedule than Alabama, so it will be interesting to see how the Crimson Tide fare this weekend at Arkansas, and how that effects their standing in the national voting for the best team in the country.
