We are six races into the 2010 NASCAR season and the Race to the Chase is underway. With no race scheduled for this weekend it is a good time to take a look at how the top seven point leaders in the Sprint Cup standings are doing so far along with their current odds to win this year’s Cup.
The four time Sprint Cup champion is well on his way to winning his fifth straight title after taking the checkered flag in three out of the first six races including the Auto Club 500, Shelby American, and the Food City 500. Last week in Martinsville he started from the 3rd position and finished 9th, giving him four top 10 finishes so far this season. He currently leads the Sprint Cup standings with 898 points.
Biffle has been extremely consistent this season with top 10 finishes in all six races. His best finish so far was third in the Daytona 500 and he also had a fourth place finish in the Food City 500. Last week he started from the 4th position and finished 10th, to give him his third 10th place finish this season. He is currently second in points with 884, 14 points behind Johnson.
While he has yet to win a race, by hanging around the front of the pack all season long, Kenseth has five top 10 finishes including a second place finish in the Kobalt Tools 500 and two fifth place finishes; in the Shelby American and the Food City 500. Last week he started second and ended up 18thfor his first finish out of the top 10. He currently has 882 points, 16 point back.
Kevin Harvick 25-1
Harvick has also yet to find the winner’s circle, but he does have a second place finish in the Auto Club 500 and the Shelby American giving you the feeling he is due for a win in the near future. Overall he has four top 10 finishes. Last week he started from the pole position but car troubles dropped him to a 35th place finish, as he was only able to complete 408 of the 508 total race laps. He is currently 61 points behind with 837.
While struggling in a few outings this season, Burton still has two top 10 finishes including a third place finish in the Auto Club 500 and a 10th place finish in the Food City 500. Last week he started seventh but could never make a run at the leaders, finishing 20th. He currently has 785 points and is 113 points out of the top spot.
Busch has been impressive this season with a win in the Kobalt Tools 500 and a third place finish in the Food City 500. All in all, he has finished in the top 10 three times so far. Last week he started sixth but ended up 20th overall, completing 506 of the total 508 laps. He is currently 122 points behind Johnson sitting in sixth place with 776 points.
After a slow start, Gordon is making his way up the point standings with a strong showing last week in the Goody’s Fast Pain Relief 500 in Martinsville. In his second top 10 finish of the year, he started 11th but was able to find a way to finish third. He also had a third place finish in the Shelby American. He is currently in seventh place with 773 points, 125 points out of the lead.
