There is not much to say after getting no-hit like the Reds did in game 1. It will be interesting to see how they respond because the world didn’t give this team much of a chance to compete to begin with and now their confidence has to be down a few notches. They are a young team and that might be the best thing going for them right now. That and they will be throwing their winningest pitcher at the Phils in game 2. Bronson Arroyo won a career high 17 games this season and in a weird coincidence has not had a start against Philadelphia since April of 2008. Unfortunately that was not a great performance as he gave up 4 homers in 5 innings in the loss…but two of them were to the since departed Pat Burrell. Arroyo will not fade in the spotlight but it is unlikely he can be the saviour the Reds are looking for…assuming they can actually get some hits.
Just when you thought the Phillies might have been a little overhyped their ace pitches a no-hitter in his first playoff start. Well it won’t get much easier for the Reds in game 2, just more familiar with Roy Oswalt on the hill. After dropping his first start for Philly Oswalt went on a tear with the Phillies winning ten of his starts in a row. That may scare Reds fans a little but there is some hope as Oswalt was 0-2 against Cincinnati this year and actually was shelled by him in his last start as an Astro. Joey Votto did the most damage that day and clearly the Reds need their MVP candidate to step up. Oswalt is backed by a lineup loaded with lefties that just feast on righthanded starters (they were 70-45 this season). Everything looks good for the Phillies to jump to a 2-0 series lead.
Prediction: The Phillies will once again beat the Reds but with little more offense from both clubs this time
Philadelphia is -200 and the O/U is 7
Score Prediction:
Philadelphia Phillies – 7
Cincinnati Reds – 2
