Pitching Probables: Roy Halladay vs. Tim Lincecum

I am very surprised that today is an elimination game for the Phillies.  They have been playing very sleepily the whole postseason and if they don’t wake up soon they will have missed a huge opportunity.  With so much at stake it is good that they have Roy Halladay on the mound.  He is always a cool customer and should not be frazzled by what is riding on the game tonight.  The Phillies have to start grinding out better at bats.  I was watching the eighth inning last night and Sergio Romo (who?) was being made to look like the second coming.  The lineup appears to be pressing but maybe with their backs against the wall they will assume some sort of calm that allows them to perform.  In Ryan Howard can go yard against Lincecum the Phillies will win.  He’s done it before.

Amazingly the Giants are only a single win way from the World Series.  Despite the advantage they should wish to wrap up the series tonight rather than give the Phillies a couple of opportunities on their home field.  The Giants should feel very good with Tim Lincecum on the mound.  He was sharp in his Game 1 start keeping the vaunted Phillies offense mostly in check while the Giants scored just enough to beat Roy Halladay.  Surprisingly his overall numbers have been better on the road then at home for his career.  For the Giants to win Lincecum must stay in the game as long as Halladay does, a tough feat against the the pitcher who led the league in complete games.  This may not be rocket science but whichever starter pitches deeper into the game should lead their team to victory.

Prediction:  I haven’t bet against the Phillies yet in the series and although I have been wrong before it doesn’t seem right that they will go out like that.  I know being on the road and facing Lincecum might make them a tough tough team to back but I will still be siding with Philadelphia.  Check out the low total.
