MLB National League Power Rankings

MLB National League Power Rankings- September 14

The 2010 Major League Baseball’s regular season has entered the home stretch and with around 20 games left to play, a couple teams are already gearing up for a long run in the postseason while most of the other teams are already relegated to making plans for next year.

Each of the National League’s 16 teams started the season dreaming of making it all the way to this year’s World Series, but in reality there are only a handful of teams left that actually still have a chance. Here is a look at my top four teams in the NL midway through September with their updated odds to win the Pennant as well as the World Series.

Philadelphia Phillies Odds to Win the NL Pennant 13/4 World Series 11/2

Philadelphia took three out of four games against Florida this past week and two out of three from the N.Y. Mets this past weekend to regain the lead over Atlanta in the NL East by one game. The Phillies have now won seven of their last 10 games to run their record to 83-61; the best in the National League. Their pitching continues to remain solid down the stretch with a team ERA of 3.78; sixth best in the NL. They are ranked eighth in hitting with a team batting average of .257 and fourth in runs scored with 670.

Atlanta Braves Odds to Win the NL Pennant 11/2 World Series 13/2

Despite losing six of its last 10 games, Atlanta still has the second best record in the NL at 82-62. While they are one game in back of the Phillies in the East, the Braves have a one game lead over San Diego and San Francisco in the wildcard race. They are ranked fourth in the league in pitching and hitting with a team ERA of 3.61 and a .262 team batting average. They are ranked third in the NL in runs scored with 679.

Cincinnati Reds Odds to Win the NL Pennant 5/1 World Series 11/1

Cincinnati has lost seven of its last 10 games including a four game sweep at the hands of Colorado this past week but still has a comfortable six game lead over St. Louis in the NL Central. The Reds pitching still lacks consistency as they are ranked 11th in the NL with a 4.10 team ERA. Their bats continue to be their primary weapon as they lead the league with team batting average of .271 and 704 runs scored. The Reds are averaging 4.92 runs per game; also the best in the NL.

San Francisco Giants Odds to Win the NL Pennant 9/2 World Series 10/1

This past weekend in a crucial NL West showdown, San Francisco took three out of four games from San Diego to pull into a tie with the Padres atop the division. The Giants are now 81-63 overall while San Diego is 80-62. Down the stretch, San Francisco’s pitching has been superb as they are now ranked second in the NL with a 3.54 team ERA. They are ranked seventh in hitting with a .258 team batting average and ninth in runs scored with 626.
