MLB American League Power Rankings – September 27
The 2010 Major League Baseball’s regular season is coming to close and with only one week left to play, a few teams have already punched their ticket to the postseason while a few others are still trying to nail down a spot.
Each of the American League’s 14 teams started the season dreaming of winning this year’s World Series, but in a few days only four will actually have a chance to turn that dream into reality. Here is a look at my top teams in the AL along with their updated odds to win the Pennant as well as the World Series.

Tampa Bay Rays Odds to Win the AL Pennant 12/5 World Series 9/2
The AL East race rages on as Tampa Bay is currently clinging to a ½ game lead over New York with just seven games to play. The Rays are 93-62 overall but just 5-5 in their last 10. Last week they battled the Yankees to a four game split after dropping the first two games. This past weekend they took two out of three from Seattle to recapture the slim division lead. Tampa is ranked third in the AL in pitching with a 3.85 team ERA and tenth in hitting with a .251 team batting average. They are ranked second in runs scored with 788.
New York Yankees Odds to Win the AL Pennant 6/5 World Series 2/1
New York has also gone 5-5 in its last 10 games including losing two out of three to Boston over the weekend. The Yankees are now 93-63 with six games left to play and have all but clinched the AL Wildcard spot if they fail to capture the division. Their 4.00 team ERA rank them sixth in the AL in pitching and they are tied for fifth in hitting with a .267 team batting average. New York continues to lead the league in runs scored with 828; an average of 5.31 runs per game.
Minnesota Twins Odds to Win the AL Pennant 6/1 World Series 12/1
Minnesota has already locked up the AL Central title but it still has its sights set on ending the season with the best record in the American League. The Twins have lost three straight games and are just 5-5 in their last 10 but right in the thick of it with an overall record of 92-63. They remain the most balanced team in the league, ranking second in both team ERA (3.83) and team batting average (.276). They are ranked fifth in runs scored with 757.
Texas Rangers Odds to Win the AL Pennant 7/2 World Series 7/1
The AL West division is locked up so Texas now turns its focus on making a run at this year’s AL Pennant. The Rangers are 87-68 overall and come into the final week of the regular season with a three game winning streak after taking three out of four from Oakland over the weekend. Their pitching is ranked fifth in the AL with a 3.93 team ERA. They lead the AL in hitting with a team batting average of .277. They are ranked fourth in total runs with 760.
