MLB American League Power Rankings

MLB American League Power Rankings – September 20

The 2010 Major League Baseball’s regular season has entered the home stretch and with less than 20 games left to play, a couple teams are already gearing up for a long run in the postseason while most of the other teams are already relegated to making plans for next year.

Each of the American League’s 14 teams started the season dreaming of making it all the way to this year’s World Series, but in reality there are only a handful of teams left that actually still have a chance. Here is a look at my top four teams in the AL heading into the end of September with their updated odds to win the Pennant as well as the World Series.

New York Yankees Odds to Win the AL Pennant 7/5 World Series 2/1

The battle for the AL East continues as New York currently leads Tampa by a ½ game in the division. The Yankees still have the best record in baseball at 90-59, but has only won four out of its last 10 games. Pitching remains fairly solid, as they are ranked fifth in the AL with a 3.90 team ERA. They are also ranked fifth in hitting with a team batting average of .268. The real strength of this team is their ability to produce runs as they lead league with 792 total runs scored.

Tampa Bay Rays Odds to Win the AL Pennant 12/5 World Series 9/2

Tampa Bay has failed to capitalize on the Yankees recent slide as the Rays have only managed to go 5-5 in their last 10 games. They are currently 89-59 overall and still have the league’s best road record at 43-30. The Rays are ranked third in the AL with a team ERA of 3.84. Their .249 team batting average rank them 11th in the league, but they are also very good at getting guys across the plate with 746 runs scored; third best in the AL.

Minnesota Twins Odds to Win the AL Pennant 7/1 World Series 14/1

Minnesota continues to roll toward the postseason with wins in seven of its last 10 games. The Twins overall record is now 89-60 and are very close to clinching the AL Central as they lead Chicago by 10 games. They are probably the most balanced team in the league with a 3.76 team ERA and a .276 team batting average; both ranked second in the AL. They are ranked fourth in runs scored with 725.

Texas Rangers Odds to Win the AL Pennant 7/2 World Series 7/1

Texas is also playing at a high level recently, going 8-2 over its last 10 games. The Rangers are 83-65 and have a nine game lead over Oakland in the division, all but assuring them a spot in the postseason by virtue of winning the AL West. Their pitching is ranked sixth in the AL with a team ERA of 3.92. The Rangers hitting is ranked first in the league with a team batting average of .277 and their 724 runs scored rank them fifth.
