MLB American League Power Rankings- September 14
The 2010 Major League Baseball’s regular season has entered the home stretch and with around 20 games left to play, a couple teams are already gearing up for a long run in the postseason while most of the other teams are already relegated to making plans for next year.
Each of the American League’s 14 teams started the season dreaming of making it all the way to this year’s World Series, but in reality there are only a handful of teams left that actually still have a chance. Here is a look at my top four teams in the AL midway through September with their updated odds to win the Pennant as well as the World Series.
New York Yankees Odds to Win the AL Pennant 7/5 World Series 2/1
Things are really heating up in the AL East after New York lost three straight games to Texas over the weekend. The Yankees lead over Tampa in the division is down to just a ½ game, but they still have the best record in the Major Leagues at 87-56. Their pitching is currently ranked fifth in the AL with a team ERA of 3.91. They are sixth in the league in hitting with a .268 team batting average but New York leads the league in runs scored with 763; an average of 5.34 runs per game.
Tampa Bay Rays Odds to Win the AL Pennant 12/5 World Series 9/2
Tampa Bay has struggled a bit as well, going just 5-5 in its last 10 games. The Rays are now 86-56 overall and have a comfortable 7 ½ game lead over Boston and Chicago in the wildcard race. Their pitching remains solid as they are ranked fourth in the AL with a 3.85 team ERA. They are ranked 11th in hitting with a team batting average of .251, but they continue to generate runs as they are ranked second with 724 total runs scored.
Minnesota Twins Odds to Win the AL Pennant 7/1 World Series 14/1
Minnesota is 7-1 in its last eight games and has opened up a six game lead over the White Sox in the AL Central. The Twins are now 85-58 overall and are clearly the most balanced team in baseball. They are ranked second in pitching with a team ERA of 3.85 and are tied with Texas atop the AL with a .276 team batting average. Minnesota is ranked fifth in runs scored with 692; an average of 4.84 runs per game.
Texas Rangers Odds to Win the AL Pennant 7/2 World Series 7/1
After losing five straight games earlier this month, Texas responded with five straight wins over the past week to maintain an 8 ½ game lead over Oakland in the AL West. The Rangers are now 80-63 overall and have the largest lead of any division in the Major Leagues. Their 3.98 team ERA is sixth best in the AL but their bats continue to pace this team. Texas has a team batting average of .276, tied for first in the AL and 694 runs scored; fourth best in the league.
