MLB American League Power Rankings- August 30
The 2010 Major League Baseball’s regular season has entered the home stretch and with a little over 30 games left to play, a couple teams are already gearing up for a long run in the postseason while quite a few other teams are already relegated to making plans for next year.
Each of the American League’s 14 teams started the season dreaming of making it all the way to this year’s World Series, but in reality there are only a handful of teams that actually still have a chance. Here is a look at my top four teams in the AL at the end of August with their updated odds to win the Pennant as well as the World Series.
New York Yankees Odds to Win the AL Pennant 3/2 World Series 12/5
New York has won its last four series to hold onto a share of the AL East division lead. The Yankees are tied with Tampa at 80-50, which also happens to be the best record in baseball. Their 3.92 team ERA rank them sixth in the AL. New York’s .269 team batting average is ranked seventh in the league but it still leads the AL in runs scored with 697.
Tampa Bay Rays Odds to Win the AL Pennant 13/5 World Series 5/1
Tampa continues to come up with one clutch win after another to keep pace in the East. In a crucial three game series against Boston this past weekend, the Rays managed to win two out of three games to not only maintain a share of the division lead, but put a serious dent in the Red Sox postseason plans. Tampa has the second best ERA in the AL at 3.64. The Rays team batting average of .251 is ranked 11th in the league but they are ranked third in runs scored with 646.
Minnesota Twins Odds to Win the AL Pennant 9/1 World Series 18/1
While it only has five wins in its last 10 games, Minnesota still leads Chicago in the Central by 4 ½ and are now 75-56 on the year. The Twins remain a very balanced team as they are ranked fourth in the AL with a team ERA of 3.89 and first in the league with a team batting average of .279. Their 629 total runs scored rank them fifth.
Texas Rangers Odds to Win the AL Pennant 12/5 World Series 19/4
Texas lost two out of three games to Oakland this past weekend but at 73-57 still have a comfortable 7 ½ lead over the A’s in the West. The Rangers are also a very balanced team. Their 3.91 team ERA is fifth best in the AL and their .274 team batting average is third best in the league. They are ranked fourth in runs scored with 630, and average of 4.85 runs per game.
