MLB American League Power Rankings- July 12th
The 2010 Major League Baseball regular season is at the halfway point and after the first 80 plus games of action some teams have made an early statement they hope to carry right through the second half while some others have dug themselves a hole they may not be able to climb out of.
All 14 American League teams started the season dreaming of making it all the way to this year’s World Series, but in reality there are only a handful of teams that actually still have a chance. Here is a look at my top four teams in the AL at the All-Star break along with their updated odds to win the Pennant as well as the World Series.
New York Yankees Odds to Win the NL Pennant 7/5 World Series 5/2
At 56-32, the defending champion Yankees continue to set the pace in the AL with the best record in baseball. They have a two game lead over Tampa Bay and a five game lead over Boston in the East, winning eight of their last 10 games. They are ranked second in the AL with a 3.81 team ERA. Their team batting average of .271 ranks them sixth in the league, but their 469 runs scored is second only to Boston.
Chicago White Sox Odds to Win the NL Pennant 28/1 World Series 65/1
Chicago is the hottest team in baseball winning 25 of their last 30 games and nine of their last 10. They currently have a ½ game lead over Detroit in the AL Central with an overall record of 49-38. The White Sox team ERA of 4.01 ranks them sixth in the AL. They are ranked ninth in the league with a .257 team batting average and 393 runs scored. Despite not being near the top of the league in any of these categories the Sox have still been able to find ways to win.
Tampa Bay Rays Odds to Win the NL Pennant 7/2 World Series 7/1
At 54-34, Tampa has done a great job of keeping pace with New York in the highly competitive East. The Rays are 8-2 in their last 10 games and show no signs of slowing down. Their pitching has been rock solid as they lead the AL with a team ERA of 3.60. Their hitting has fallen off a bit as they are ranked 10th in the league with a team batting average of .256. Their 444 total runs scored rank them fourth in the league.
Texas Rangers Odds to Win the NL Pennant 9/2 World Series 10/1
With a 4 ½ game lead over Los Angeles in the AL West, Texas has the largest division lead in baseball. The Rangers are 50-38 overall, but just 3-7 in the last 10 and have lost their last four. They are one of the more balanced teams in the AL as their team ERA of 3.97 ranks them fifth and their .278 team batting average ranks them second. Texas has scored 453 runs, third best in the league.
