The 2010 Major League Baseball regular season is well underway and after the first six weeks of action some teams have already made an early statement while some others are already digging themselves an early hole in their division. All 14 American League teams still believe they can make it all the way to this year’s World Series, but in reality there are only a handful of teams that actually have a chance. Here is a look at my top four teams in the AL after week six and their current odds to win the Pennant and the World Series.
Tampa Bay Rays Odds to win the AL Pennant 3-1 World Series 11-2
Tampa Bay continues to control the AL East with an overall record of 26-11 and a two game lead over New York. While they have played well at home, winning 11 out of 18 they have been incredible on the road with a record of 15-4. Offensively, the Rays have a team batting average of .249, ranking them 10th in the NL. They are ranked third in the league in runs scored with 197. Where they have really been dominant is in their team pitching. They lead the AL with an ERA of just 2.75 as four of their starters have an ERA of 3.0 or less.
New York Yankees Odds to win the AL Pennant 8-5 World Series 5-2
New York has so far kept pace with the Rays, trailing by two games with an overall record of 24-13. After splitting a four game series with Detroit last week, they took two out of three from Minnesota over the weekend to raise their record to 9-6 for the month a May. They remain an extremely balanced team as they rank first in the AL in hitting with a team average of .277 and are ranked second in pitching with a team ERA of 3.53. They will get a shot at closing the gap with Tampa as they host the Rays for two games starting this Wednesday.
Minnesota Twins Odds to win the AL Pennant 8-1 World Series 14-1
With an overall record of 23-14, Minnesota leads Detroit by a game and half in the AL Central. Last week they split a two game series with the White Sox and lost a three game weekend series with the Yankees. They were able to avoid a sweep with a 6-3 win on Sunday. The Twins are also well balanced, ranking second in hitting with a team average .275 and fourth in pitching with a team ERA of 3.73. Francisco Liriano leads the way with a 4-2 record and an ERA of 2.63 in seven starts.
Texas Rangers Odds to win the AL Pennant 13-1 World Series 30-1
Texas had a 9-3 record in May going into this past weekend series with Toronto. After losing three straight to the Blue Jays their lead in the AL West is down to two games over Oakland. They have an overall record of 20-18. The Rangers are ranked sixth in the AL in team hitting with a .260 batting average and runs scored with 178. They are ranked fifth in pitching with a team ERA of 4.03. With a combined 281 strikeouts they are ranked second in the AL, just behind Toronto. C.J. Wilson leads the team with a 3-1 record and an ERA of just 1.48 in seven starts.
