NCAA Football Betting – Can Anyone Stop the SEC’s BCS Reign?

Looking at the 2010 draft, NFL football betting players would think that the Big 12 is the dominant conference as they had five of the first six picks. But the SEC had only two, and they’re the ones who have owned the BCS championship trophy over the last few years. Alabama will be aiming for their second straight title for their school, and fifth in a row for their conference; can anyone stop them?

One major reason why the SEC frequently has teams with great NCAA football betting odds? Defense. The SEC had two teams in the top four defensively in 2009, and seven within the top 40. When teams play against the SEC, they know they’re going to get hit harder than arguably any other conference, with the exception of maybe the Big Ten. Even the worst team in the conference, Vanderbilt at 2-10, was 56th in the country in defense, and the entire conference ranked in the top 80 in scoring defense, with eight in the top 50. You know what they say: defense wins championships.

So will the BCS title game, once again, feature an SEC team? If an SEC team does make it there, they’ll have history on their side as they’re a perfect 6-0 as a conference in the national-title game since the BCS was established. Their last two wins have come against the Big 12 as Florida beat Oklahoma in 2008, while Alabama held off Texas last year. In the two prior years, Florida and LSU took turns beating up on Ohio State. The defending champion Crimson Tide are atop the preseason rankings, while Florida is fourth, and these two could very well meet twice this season, once on October 2nd in Tuscaloosa, and then again at the Georgia Dome for the SEC title game, in which they’ve met in the past two seasons, splitting both games. Given that the consensus is that the SEC is the toughest conference in the land, the winner of this game will probably go on to the championship game.

The teams that online football betting players will likely see against the SEC champions? Texas and Oklahoma of the Big 12 will be competitive as always, along with Nebraska, while Miami, Virginia Tech and Florida State all have a shot at representing the ACC. However, the teams with the best shot may be a couple of “BCS Busters” who have made a name for themselves in recent years, Boise State (WAC) and TCU (Mountain West). These two were unbeaten last year, but were handed a matchup against each other in the Fiesta Bowl, which is arguably the best BCS game of them all. The little guys may get a shot this year, but it doesn’t matter where the team comes from, they’ll be an online betting underdog heading into the BCS title game against the SEC.
