MLB National League Power Rankings

MLB National League Power Rankings- July 26th

The 2010 Major League Baseball’s second half of the regular season is well underway and after almost 100 games of action some teams are making a statement they hope to carry right through to the postseason while some others have dug themselves a hole they probably will not be able to climb out of.

All 16 National League teams started the season dreaming of making it all the way to this year’s World Series, but in reality there are only a handful of teams that actually still have a chance. Here is a look at my top four teams in the NL through the third week of July with their updated odds to win the Pennant as well as the World Series.

Atlanta Braves Odds to Win the NL Pennant 3/1 World Series 7/1

Atlanta has gone 5-5 in their last 10 games including losing two out of three to Florida over the weekend. Despite the setback, the Braves still have a five game lead over Philadelphia in the East. They are now 57-41 overall and have the best home record in the NL at 34-13. Atlanta’s pitching remains solid as it is ranked fourth in the NL with a team ERA of 3.66. The Braves are also tied for third in the league with a team batting average of .262 and third with 461 runs scored.

San Diego Padres Odds to Win the NL Pennant 9/1 World Series 20/1

San Diego still leads San Francisco by three games in the West. The Padres are 58-39 overall and have now won four straight including a three game sweep of Pittsburgh over the weekend. Pitching remains the strength of this team as they lead the NL with an ERA of 3.27. San Diego is still struggling a bit at the plate as its team batting average is just .253, tying them for 12th in the league. The team is ranked 11th in runs scored with 429.

St. Louis Cardinals Odds to Win the NL Pennant 4/1 World Series 8/1

In a see-saw battle with Cincinnati in the Central, St. Louis currently has a ½ game lead after going 8-3 since the All-Star break. The Cardinals are 55-44 overall and 34-16 at home. St. Louis is ranked second in the NL in pitching with a team ERA of 3.29. Its .262 team batting average is tied for third in the league with four other teams. The Cardinal’s 442 total runs scored ranks the team eighth in the NL.

San Francisco Giants Odds to Win the NL Pennant 12/1 World Series 25/1

San Francisco continues to win at a regular pace, keeping San Diego well within its sights in the West. The Giants have gone 8-2 in their last 10 games including winning four straight over Arizona this past weekend. Overall, they are now 56-43 and just three games out of the lead. With a team ERA of 3.37, they are ranked third in the NL behind the Padres and the Cardinals. Their hitting has remained solid as well as the Giants are tied for third in the NL with a team batting average of .262. Their 440 total runs scored rank them 10th.
