MLB National League Power Rankings

The 2010 Major League Baseball regular season is underway and after the first six weeks of action some teams have made an early statement while some others are already digging themselves an early hole in their division. Every National League team has a dream of making it all the way to this year’s World Series, but in reality there are only a handful of teams that actually have a chance. Here is a look at my top four teams in the NL after week six and their current odds to win the Pennant and the World Series.

Philadelphia Phillies Odds to Win the NL Pennant 9-4 World Series 9-2

Philadelphia has remained on a tear in the month of May, winning 11 out of 14 to run their overall record to 23-13, tops in the National League. After a three game sweep of Milwaukee over the weekend they have opened up a four game lead over Florida and Washington in the NL East. Their powerful lineup has moved them to top of the league with a team batting average of .279. They also lead the NL in runs scored with 200. With a team ERA of 3.75 they are currently ranked fourth in the NL as the entire rotation has been able to elevate their game over the past few weeks.

Cincinnati Reds Odds to Win the NL Pennant 20-1 World Series 50-1

Cincinnati has won eight out of their last 10 including a three game sweep of Pittsburgh and taking two out of three from St. Louis over the weekend. They are now 21-16 overall and have moved into the lead in the NL Central by a ½ game over the slumping Cardinals, who have gone 3-7 in their last 10. With a team batting average of .259, the Reds are in the bottom half of the NL, ranked 10th overall, but they are ranked 7th in runs scored with 177. Their pitching staff has a team ERA of 4.70, ranking them 13th in the NL. They are ranked eighth in strikeouts with 279.

San Diego Padres Odds to Win the NL Pennant 30-1 World Series 150-1

San Diego is coming off a roller coaster week after a three game sweep of San Francisco earlier in the week and dropping three straight to Los Angeles (Dodgers) over the weekend. With a record of 22-15 they still lead the Giants by a ½ game in the NL West, with LA only two games back at 20-17. The Padres bats still remain the weakest part of this team, as they are currently ranked 14th in the NL with a team average of just .235. Their pitching though has been spectacular as they lead the NL with a team ERA of 2.64 which is actually the best in the Majors.

San Francisco Giants Odds to Win the NL Pennant 17-2 World Series 16-1

San Francisco bounced back from losing three straight to the Padres by winning three straight from Houston over the weekend. They are 21-15 and just a ½ game out of first in the highly competitive West. With a team batting average of .265, they are ranked sixth in the NL. Their main problem has been consistent offensive production as their 158 runs scored ranks them 13th. Led by Tim Lincecum’s 1.76 earned run average through eight starts, the Giants have a team ERA of 2.95, ranking them third in the NL.
