Utah Jazz at Houston Rockets
Wednesday April 7, 2010 – 8:00 PM EST on ESPN
Utah – 50-27 SU, 47-27-3 ATS
Houston – 38-38 SU, 33-43 ATS
The Jazz are coming off of a tough game against budding playoff team Oklahoma City in the first game of a back-to-back. Their own playoff position is secure but there are so many teams bunched up behind the Lakers that the Jazz could be seeded as high as second or as low as fifth depending on how they finish. As you can see from the record Utah has been a great spread team this year, including 2-1 ATS against Houston. Deron Williams is enjoying a fantastic season and has blasted the Rockets. In a 23 point blowout in late February he made all four of his 3 point attempts en route to a 35 point, 13 assist performance. The Jazz really exploit the Rockets use of little PG Aaron Brooks.
Houston’s season has not gone according to plan and they will be missing the playoffs. They are playing out the string and playing the second of a back-to-back as well…but at least they will be home. Either way it is hard to know what kind of effort to expect. The Rockets had won only 2 of their previous eight before walking into Boston and beating the Celtics in overtime. The Rockets have a quirky lineup and rotation. They can score but have trouble defending which is not a good combination against the ultra efficient Utah Jazz. The last time these two teams met the Jazz shot 67% for the game. Astounding for an NBA game.
The current line for this game is Utah -5.
Game Prediction: Both teams are playing for the second time in two nights so this should be a wash in terms of fatigue. The game is meaningless for the Rockets who have trouble with the ultra efficient Jazz even on a good night. I expect an easy victory for Utah as they make a push for second in the conference.
Score Prediction:
Utah – 112
Houston – 100
Play: Jazz should have a comfortable victory. At -5 there is decent value here.
