The 2-0 New York Jets travel cross-country this week for a Sunday afternoon clash with the 1-1 Oakland Raiders at Oakland County Coliseum. Kick-off in this one is slated for 4:15 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast regionally on CBS.

New York comes into this game fresh off a 32-3 dismantling of Jacksonville as an 8.5-point home favorite. The total stayed ‘under’ the 38-point line. This game was a much more impressive showing than the 27-24 squeaker it pulled out over Dallas in its home opener as a 6.5-point favorite. The total in that game went ‘over’ the 40.5-point line.
The Jets have uncharacteristically struggled to run the ball so far as Shonn Greene has gained just 75 yards on 26 carries for a dismal 2.9 yards per attempt average. Mark Sanchez has thrown for 517 yards and four touchdowns, but has also been picked off three times.
Oakland has been on both sides of a couple of three-point games. It outlasted Denver 23-20 as a three-point road underdog in its season opener and dropped a heart-breaking 38-35 decision to Buffalo as a 3.5 road underdog this past Sunday on a late fourth quarter touchdown by the Bills. The total in both of these games went ‘over’ the total.
In direct contrast to New York, the Raiders have done an excellent job at running the ball behind Darren McFadden’s 222 yards rushing on 42 carries. Jason Campbell has thrown for 428 yards and three touchdowns while completing an impressive 65.5 percent of his passes.
New York is 13-4 straight-up in its last 17 games on the road. The total has gone ‘over’ in six of the Jets last eight games overall and in 11 of their last 12 games on the road.
Oakland is 4-2 SU in its last six games at home. The total has gone ‘over’ in six of the Raiders last seven home games and in five of their last six games overall.
Head-to-head in this series, the Jets are 4-1 SU in the last five meetings overall, but are just 2-3-1 against the spread in its last six trips to Oakland. The last time these two teams played one another was in 2009 with New York cruising to a 38-0 victory as a six-point road favorite. Do not expect things to be nearly as easy for Jets this time. In fact, the confidence level remains fairly high that the Raiders come away with an outright win on Sunday.
The odds makers have the New York Jets as a -3.5 point favorite with an over/under of 42.
