NFL Divisional Playoffs – Over/Under Picks

NFL Divisional Playoffs-Top ‘Over/Under’ Plays

There are only four games on the schedule for this weekend’s NFL Divisional Round of the playoffs, so uncovering a couple of locks against the total line becomes quite the challenge especially given the fact that weather could be a major factor in three of the games. The odds makers have sharpened their pencils so it is time to sharpen ours.

Here is a look at my top two plays against the total line for this weekend’s games. All lines quoted are courtesy of BetUs.com.

vs.

Seattle Seahawks @ Chicago Bears                        Over/Under: 41

The Seahawks put up a surprising 41 points against New Orleans last week in their shocking upset in the Wildcard Round. They now have to go on the road to Chicago where they actually upset the Bears 23-20 earlier in the season as a six-point road underdog. Seattle also gave up 36 points to the Saints as its defense has struggled to keep opponents out of the end zone all season long.

The Bear’s defense only gave up an average of 17.9 points per game this season which was fourth best in the league; however they did give up 26 points to Philadelphia, 36 points to New England, and 34 points to the New York Jets in their last three home games. The Seahawks offense is not as potent as the Eagles or Patriots, but could be considered comparable to the Jets.

While common sense might suggest a low scoring game, all the recent trends say otherwise. The total has gone ‘over’ in the Seahawks last four road games and in nine of their last 10 games overall. The total has gone ‘over’ in four of the Bears last five playoff games and in five of their last six games overall. The total has gone ‘over’ in the last five meetings between these two teams. The Pick: OVER

vs.

New York Jets @ New England Patriots          Over/Under: 45

The Jets’ offense has been like a light switch this season. They scored 34 points against Chicago’s fourth-ranked scoring defense and 22 points against Pittsburgh’s first-ranked scoring defense in back-to-back road games in December, but only managed to score three points against New England and six points against Miami the prior two weeks.

The Patriots have had little problem putting points on the board this season. They averaged a league-high 32.4 points a game this season, but were even more impressive down the stretch; averaging 37.4 points per game in their final eight games. They only team to hold New England to less than 30 points since the beginning of November was Cleveland in Week 9.

The total has gone ‘over’ in five of the Jets last six games against the AFC East and in nine of their last 10 games on the road. The total has also gone ‘over’ in five of the Patriots last six games against the AFC East and in nine of their last 10 games overall. The total has gone over in three of the last five meetings between these two teams. The Pick: OVER
