UFC on Versus 2 Betting – Good Fights That Lead Up to the Main Event
Jon Jones is definitely the headliner at the UFC on Versus Event on Saturday, but the rest of the televised card has its share of intrigue as well. A Middleweight bout, a Welterweight fight and a Lightweight clash all offer good UFC betting opportunities and should all be fun to watch.
UFC – UFC on Versus 2
August 1, 2010 - San Diego Sports Arena,
San Diego, California, United States
Broadcast: Versus Network
Yushin Okami (25-5): -210
Mark Munoz (8-1): +165
Mark Munoz is a UFC prospect who with a win can cement his name on the Middleweight landscape. Yushin Okami is an MMA veteran looking for the same thing – some recognition and an eventual Title shot. Both fighters are good striker, both have good take down defense and both have wrestling backgrounds. Okami will hold a decided advantage on the ground however – he has shown good Top control and has also shown an ability to escape from the bottom. Munoz has been solid against all comers and trains with the likes of Anderson Silva, Lyoto Machida, Junior Dos Santos and the Noguieras. Munoz is the underdog but really shouldn’t be!
Pick: Mark Munoz +165
Jake Ellenberger (25-5): -170
John Howard (14-4): +140
Jake Ellenberger has a chance to put John Howard’s 4-0 UFC winning streak to an end. Ellenberger is a wrestler whose conditioning is among the best in the Welterweight division. Ellenberger bring experience and an excellent chin to the Octagon on Saturday night – he has never been knocked out in his 30 MMA fights! Howard has good jiu-jitsu, great power, explosive takedowns and a good Muay Thai game. Ellenberger has made a living off the “C” and “D” MMA fighters in the past and will be seriously tested in this match. Look for the underdog to once again weather his opponent’s storm and end the fight with a TKO.
Pick: John Howard +140
Takanori Gomi (31-6): +220
Tyson Griffin (14-3): -300
Takanori Gomi was once one of the most feared fighters in the MMA. He is a fast powerful striker whose vicious aggression has made him a legend in Japan. Tyson Griffin is a good all around fighter whose submission game is top notch and whose stand up game has emerged. Both fighters should be motivated having come off losses but I like the discipline and the focus on training that Griffin displays in this fight. The bout is likely to go the distance and only one fighter has the discipline and conditioning to go the full 15 minutes.
Pick: Tyson Griffin by decision
