Entering the final month of the 2011 MLB season, many fishing games handicappers are looking for the latest trends to help them make a profit on their favorite teams. One team garnering a lot of attention on the Tuesday MLB betting line, is the Washington Nationals. Currently in fourth place in the ever daunting National League East, the Nationals welcome back highly regarded prospect and 2009 first overall draft selection Stephen Strasburg to the starting rotation. Strasburg is taking the spot of Nationals fan favorite Livan Hernandez who was shut down in order to make room for the phenom. Here are the latest sports betting trends.
The Los Angeles Dodgers travel to Washington, to take on the Nationals, whom are set as a – 155 favorite on the money line. As we noted earlier, this will be the first start for Stephen Strasburg, since undergoing Tommy John elbow surgery last July. In his short stint with the Nationals last season, Strasburg was an impressive five and three with a 2.91 ERA and 92 strikeouts in 68 innings of work. The fireball thrower essentially blew out his elbow because of the pressure he would put on his pitches a season ago.
Entering tonight’s game, the Nationals are an impressive 11 and three in their last14 home games against the LA Dodgers. Meaning to say, taking Strasburg and the Nationals in his first start of the 2011 campaign, should be a safe bet for handicappers considering this game as an option. What’s more, look for the Nationals to ease Strasburg back into the thick of things, by putting him on a pitch count. The last thing the MLB Nationalsneeds is another star player going down to injury.
The Game of the day on most fans radars will be a battle in the National League Central, as the Milwaukee Brewers and St. Louis Cardinals continue their three game set. Milwaukee enters the game, as a -155 favorite, after cruising to a four to one victory yesterday and moving to a 10 and a half game lead over the Cardinals. Theoretically, if the Brewers win tonight and move to 11 and half games ahead of St. Louis, the Brewers should be able to clinch their first division crown since 2008 in the next few weeks.
From a baseball prospects standpoint, the series of games to watch, will feature the Minnesota Twins and Chicago White Sox. Yesterday, the White Sox swept a double header against the Twins, after sending top prospects Phil Humber and Zach Stewart to the mound in each game. The latter prospect, Stewart, laid the smackdown on the Twins as he pitched a complete game one hitter shutout and cruised to a four nothing win.
Tonight, the Twins will attempt to rebound, by sending top pitching prospect Liam Hendriks to mound in his big league debut. With Double A New Britain and Triple A Rochester, Hendriks was an impressive 12 and six with a 3.36 ERA in 25 games.
