NHL Power Rankings – January 15th

The Philadelphia Flyers currently have the longest winning streak in the Eastern Conference at four, but they are still nowhere near New Jersey who is leading the way with 65 points. In the West, the Anaheim Ducks have won five straight but are still in last place in the Pacific division well behind San Jose who has the most points in the conference with 67.

The Devils have won their last two to maintain a six point lead over Pittsburgh in the Atlantic division. In the Northeast, Buffalo has expanded their lead over Boston to 10 points and to 13 points over Ottawa and Montreal. Washington continues to dominate the Southeast division, leading both Atlanta and Tampa Bay by 16 points.

Out in the West, Chicago has a seven point lead over Nashville in the Central division. The Northwest is the tightest division in the league with Colorado and Calgary tied with 58 points with Vancouver just two points back. The Sharks lead Phoenix by 10 points and Los Angeles by 14 points in the Pacific division.

The following are my top four teams in the league along with their opening and current odds to win it all.

San Jose Sharks Odds to win the Stanley Cup: Open 10/1 Current 11/2

The Sharks are currently 30-10-7 with a total of 67 points. They are 8-2 in their last 10 games and have won their last two. San Jose started the week with a 4-1 loss to Detroit after the Red Wings blew the game wide open with three goals in the second period. They bounced back with a 2-1 over the Kings. Dany Heatley scored the game winner, his 26th goal on the year. Against the Coyotes they scored the first three goals and hung onto win 3-1. Patrick Marleau is the leading goal scorer with 31 and Joe Thornton leads the way with 49 assists. Evgeni Nabokov has a 2.29 GAA (goals against average).

New Jersey Devils Odds to Win the Stanley Cup: Open 15/1 Current 15/1

The Devils are currently 32-11-1 with a total of 65 points. They are 7-3 in their last 10 games, winning their last two. Last Friday they were stunned by the Lightning, falling behind 3-0 early and eventually losing 4-2. Zach Parise scored the game winner in a 2-1 overtime battle with the Canadians. It was the Devils first overtime goal of the season. In a rare scoreless regulation, they beat the Rangers in a 1-0 overtime shootout. Parise leads the team in goals with 20 and Jamie Langenbrunner leads in assists with 27. Martin Brodeur has a GAA of 2.14.

Chicago Blackhawks Odds to win the Stanley Cup: Open 12/1 Current 5/1

The Blackhawks are currently 31-11-4 with a total of 66 points. They are 7-2-1 in their last 10 games. In a wild one against the Wild, they overcame a four goal deficit after two periods and pulled out the 6-5 win in an overtime shootout. In their next game against Anaheim, the Ducks jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first, but this time they could not close the gap, losing 3-1. Patrick Kane leads the team in goals with 19 and is tied with Duncan Keith in assists with 33. Christobal Huet’s GAA is 2.17.

Buffalo Sabres Odds to win the Stanley Cup: Open 30/1 Current 18/1

The Sabres are currently 28-11-5 with a total of 61 points. They are 7-1-2 in their last 10 games. The Sabres won their sixth straight game with a 3-2 win over the Maple Leafs. Rookie defenseman Tyler Miles scored two power play goals in the win. Unfortunately the streak came to an end after falling to the Avalanche in a 4-3 overtime shootout loss. The shootout went 11 rounds before Colorado’s Matt Hendricks scored the winner. Thomas Vanek is the leading goal scorer with 12 and Tim Connnolly leads in assists with 26. Ryan Miller has a GAA of 2.05.
