Washington Redskins 2010 NFL Record: 6-10 Home: 2-6 Away: 4-4
Washington finished fourth in the NFC East last year with a 6-10 record. The Redskins were 2-6 at home and 4-4 on the road. They went 2-4 in the division and 4-8 in the conference.
They failed to qualify for the postseason.
Washington Redskins 2011 Preview
Expectations for Mike Shanahan’s 2010 Washington Redskins were through the roof with Albert Haynesworth anchoring the defensive line and newly acquired Donovan McNabb leading the offense. Unfortunately, Haynesworth had a hard time even getting into the Redskins’ lineup and McNabb found himself on the bench by the end of the season. Both players are no longer with the team, as Shanahan is resigned to getting back to basics as his primary strategy for rebuilding the Redskins into a winning franchise.
It remains a mystery as to who will line up behind center for Washington on opening day against the New York Giants. Rex Grossman was the starter at the end of last season, throwing for 884 yards and seven touchdowns. He also threw four interceptions and only completed 55.6 percent of his passes, so do not be surprised if five-year veteran John Beck gets the starting nod. Shanahan has indicated he is leaning towards Beck, but the two QB’s will continue to battle things out in training camp.
The Redskins did add some depth on offense with the selection of WR Leonard Hankerson in the third round and RB Roy Helu in the fourth. They are also counting on Tim Hightower, who was acquired in a trade with Arizona, to join last year’s rushing leader Ryan Torain as the two lead backs in an offense that was ranked 30th in rushing last season.
Washington used its first two picks of the draft to address the defensive line with the addition of Ryan Kerrigan in the first round and Jarvis Jenkins in the second. Shanahan is hoping that these two studs can make an immediate impact on a squad that was ranked 31st overall and 26th against the run.
The overall youth movement is by design, as Shanahan appears content with stock piling draft choices acquired from moving out some overpriced veterans, as a means to try and fill all the holes in this team. As far as the outlook for this season, the gap has actually widened between Washington and the rest of the division as it will struggle just to reach its win total from the year before.
