Minnesota snapped a five-game losing streak dating back to last season with a 34-10 victory over Arizona last Sunday as a 3.5-point home favorite. It is now 1-4 straight-up and 2-2-1 against the spread. The total has stayed ‘under’ in three of its five games this season.
While the Vikings thought that veteran quarterback Donovan McNabb was just what their team needed to get back into contention in the division, he has done little to help their chances with just 849 yards passing and four touchdown throws. Fortunately they still have Adrian Peterson running the ball. He has this team ranked third in the NFL in rushing while ranking-up 498 yards and six TD’s on 110 carries.
Chicago has been a hard team to figure out this season. It blasted the Falcons 30-12 on opening day as a one-point home underdog, but has stumbled to a 2-3 SU start (1-4 ATS) and comes into this game fresh off 24-13 loss to Detroit last Monday night as a 6.5-point road underdog. The total has stayed ‘under’ in three of its five games.
While it is no big surprise that the Bears are ranked 23rd in the league in total offense and 18th in scoring, the big problem for this team has been on the defensive side of the ball. Chicago’s vaunted defense is ranked 29th overall; 27th against the pass and 28th against the run. It is giving up 24.2 points a game, which is ranked 17th overall.
The Vikings are 2-5 ATS in their last seven games against the Bears and 1-7 ATS in their last eight trips to the Windy City. The favorite in this series is 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings and the total has gone ‘over’ in seven of the last 11 meetings.
The odds makers have the Chicago Bears as a -3 point favorite with an over/under of 41.5.
Do not expect Minnesota to start bucking these trends this time around as the Bears win and cover the three points at home with relative ease.
The Pick: Chicago 28 Minnesota 17
