Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2010 Odds, Preview, and Predictions
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Current odds to win: Division: +2000 Conference: 60-1 Super Bowl: 100-1
Tampa Bay was fourth in the NFC South last year with a 3-13 record. They were 1-7 at home and 2-6 on the road. They went 1-5 in the division and 3-9 in the conference.
They failed to qualify for the postseason.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Outlook for 2010
When you only win three games and end the season with the 28th ranked offense and the 27th ranked defense you really only have one direction to go and that is up. It is hard to believe that this franchise is only three years removed from winning this division as they did in 2007. Through this and last year’s draft they have added some young talent to their ball club, but it remains to be seen if second year head coach Raheem Morris has what it takes to pull it all together and produce a winner.
It appears that second year QB Josh Freeman will be the Buccaneers starter come opening day. In nine starts in his rookie year he threw for 1,855 yards and 10 TD’s along with 18 interceptions. He will have a few new faces to throw to after Tampa drafted WR’s Arrelious Benn in the second round and Mike Williams in the fourth. TE Kellen Winslow is expected to be fully recovered from knee surgery and is expected to be in the starting lineup on opening day. RB Cadillac Williams signed his one year tender and remains the main threat out of the backfield.
Tampa also used the draft to address their defensive woes by taking a pair of defensive tackles with their first two picks. With the third overall pick in the draft they selected Gerald McCoy and in the second round they took Brian Price. These two have the ability to step in to make an immediate impact on stopping the run as well as adding some inside pressure on passing downs. All in all, they used six of their nine picks on defense, filling a number of holes along the way.
The Buccaneers are in for another long season but they are moving in the right direction. With a ton of young talent they will be far more competitive than last season, however it will still take some time for this to convert itself into wins.
2010 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Prediction: 5-11, fourth place in the NFC South.
