Pittsburgh Steelers at Indianapolis Colts

The Pittsburgh Steelers get an early visit to the sight of this year’s Super Bowl when they take on the Indianapolis Colts in prime time on Sunday night. The kick-off is slated for 8:20 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast nationally on NBC.

It has only been two weeks but this season has been the tale of two teams for Pittsburgh. It looked horrible in its 35-7 loss to Baltimore as a one-point road underdog in the season opener, but much more like its usual self in a 24-0 rout of Seattle this past Sunday as a 13.5-point home favorite. The total went ‘over’ the 36-point line against the Ravens, but stayed ‘under’ the 39.5-point line against the Seahawks.
It is hard to know what to expect from the Steelers on Sunday night, but if they can hold onto the ball, they should do just fine. They turned the ball over seven times against Baltimore, including three interceptions and two lost fumbles by quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. He cleaned up his act against Seattle, completing 73.3 percent of his throws for one touchdown and no interceptions.
We all know the story with Indianapolis, but its performance without Peyton Manning in the lineup has been much worse than expected. Without their field general, the Colts have managed to score a total of 26 points in two lopsided losses. The odds makers have adjusted the lines accordingly, but they have not even come close to covering the spread in either game.
Kerry Collins is apparently not the answer as Manning’s replacement, but at this point Indianapolis has no one else to turn to. He has completed just 50.7 percent of his passes for 388 yards, but it is hard to pin all the blame on him. This team, as a whole, has basically sleep-walked its way through the first weeks and has looked bad in every phase of the game.
It is hard to take into consideration any of the past trends in this matchup, as Manning had such a huge influence on the Colts’ past performance. Just going on what we have seen from these two teams over the first two weeks, it is hard to believe that Indianapolis will play any better in this game, while Pittsburgh is still trying to get the taste of the loss to Baltimore out of its mouth.
The odds makers have the Pittsburgh Steelers as a -10.5 point favorite with an over/under of 39.
