Seattle Seahawks 2010 NFL Record: 7-9 Home: 5-3 Away: 2-6
Seattle finished first in the NFC West last year with a 7-9 record. The Seahawks were 5-3 at home and 2-6 on the road. They went 4-1 in the division and 6-6 in the conference.
They lost to Chicago 35-24 in the Divisional Round of the playoffs after stunning New Orleans 41-36 in the Wildcard Round.
Seattle Seahawks 2011 Preview
One single play in one single game defined Seattle’s 2010 season after RB Marshawn Lynch’s amazing touchdown run in its wildcard playoff game against the Saints sealed the improbable win. Forget the fact that the Seahawks qualified for the postseason with a losing record, or the fact that their offense was ranked 28th in the league and their defense was ranked 27th. This team can still hang its hat on that one moment in time.
Unfortunately, that was last year and 2011 is a whole new season. The problems on both sides of the ball still exist and to make matters worse, it looks like Seattle will being going with a new signal caller as it is unlikely it will be able to come to terms with longtime veteran Matt Hasselbeck, who is now a free agent. The heir apparent will most likely be six-year vet Charlie Whitehurst, who started two games last season, including the Seahawks 16-6 victory over the Rams the final week of the regular season to clinch the division.
One of the main priorities that second-year coach Pete Carroll had heading into this offseason was improving the offensive line. He looked to the draft in lieu of free agency by selecting OL James Carpenter with the 25th overall pick and G John Moffitt in the third round. With the free agent market finally opening up, he may now look to add a veteran player to provide even more depth up front.
To address some of the most pressing needs on defense, Seattle used five of their middle round picks to add not only some depth, but some youth to a unit that appeared to break down late in the game last season, especially on the road. The main problem was against the pass, where the Seahawks were ranked 27th in yards allowed. Once the free agent signing period does reopen, look for them to add a veteran or two up front to help bolster the pass rush as well as in the secondary to try and address their pass coverage woes.
Seattle remains a difficult place to get a win, so the Seahawks will always tally a good share of wins at home, buts its play on the road will not be enhanced with the current roster, so a winning season seems a stretch at this point.
