Seattle Seahawks 2010 Odds, Preview, and Predictions
Seattle Seahawks Current odds to win: Division: +250 Conference: 20-1 Super Bowl: 40-1
Seattle finished third in the NFC West last year with a 5-11 record. They were 4-4 at home and 1-7 on the road. They went 3-3 in the division and 4-8 in the conference.
They failed to qualify for the postseason.
Seattle Seahawks Outlook for 2010
In an effort to turn around a perennial playoff team that has only won nine game in the last two years, Seattle brought in Pete Carroll as their new head coach. Carroll has immediately raised the hopes and expectations of the entire franchise that they can turn things around this year. Time will tell whether or not this is actually the case.
The offensive will still revolve around the health of veteran QB Matt Hasselbeck. After taking a tremendous beating in 2009, they went out and drafted OT Russell Okung in the first round to protect his blindside after Walter Jones decided to retire. Keeping Hasselbeck upright should allow him to get the ball into the hands of WR’s T.J. Houshmandzadeh and Deion Branch on a regular basis. The Seahawks have two capable running backs in Julius Jones and Justin Forsett, but they will have to improve their rushing offense which was ranked 26th in the league last year, to try and take some additional pressure off their quarterback. At best you could call this side of the ball a “work in progress”.
The real problems on this team still concern the defense. Last year they finished ranked 24th in total yards allowed, 26th in points allowed, and 30th in pass defense. Drafting S Earl Thomas with their other first round pick will give them a legitimate playmaker in the secondary. They also re- signed veteran CB Lawyer Milloy in order to provide some additional depth on the roster. Overall their defense should be somewhat improved over last year’s but still not great.
With Arizona falling back a bit, the Seahawks have a legitimate chance to be right in the thick of the NFC West if San Francisco cannot live up to the lofty expectations everyone is putting on them. It may not be pretty, but eight or nine wins could easily be enough to win the division.
2010 Seattle Seahawks Prediction: 8-8, second place in the NFC West.
