Super Bowl betting odds has had New Orleans near the top of the list all season, and it only got better as the Saints won their first 13 games of the season. They slumped down the stretch, but recovered last week, and the only thing that stands between them and their first appearance in the Super Bowl is a Minnesota team that is very similar to the Saints.
Vikings vs Jets odds – Sunday, January 24, 6:40 PM ET
The Vikings rolled to a 34-3 destruction of Dallas at home, where Minnesota was a spectacular 9-0 this year. Brett Favre was 15-of-24 for 234 yards and four touchdowns, three of which went to Sidney Rice, who had six receptions for 141 yards on the day. While the Minnesota offense had their way with Dallas despite another tough day for Adrian Peterson, it was the defense that really led them to this win. The Minnesota front four were all over Tony Romo, sacking the Dallas pivot six times, and they forced four turnovers on the day.
The Saints shrugged off their late-season struggles during the bye week, and came out focused in a 45-14 romp over Arizona. The offense, which failed to score more than 17 points in their final three games of the season, picked apart the Cardinals through the air and on the ground, led by Drew Brees’ 247 yards and three touchdowns, along with a resurgence from Reggie Bush, who had 217 all-purpose yards and a pair of scores, including one on a punt return.
Bookmaker odds (bookmaker reviews) have the Saints as a 3.5-point favorite at home, and before you go to your gambling software, consider this: Minnesota lost their last three games of the regular season on the road, and it’s a different game when you’re away from home, as the Cowboys will tell you. The Saints’ crowd is arguably louder than Minnesota’s, and the Vikings will try to quiet them early. The Saints need to slow down the Vikings’ front four, and if they could get the running game going, that would open up the play-action game. The X-factor could be New Orleans safety Darren Sharper, who will have to help out on Rice. Sharper played with Favre for eight seasons in Green Bay, and then against him during four seasons in Minnesota, so he has a special knowledge of how Favre works.
NFL predictions: Saints -3.5
