NFL Week 8 Preview

NFL Week 8 Preview, Match Ups & Predictions

We reach the halfway point by Week 8 of the 2010-11 NFL season, and the divisions should be taking shape. My pick for Game of the Week is Minnesota at New England. An epic battle between two of the NFL’s all-time best quarterbacks. Here I take a look at the matchups, giving you some early insight that will help make your 2010 NFL wagers winners. Teams with byes this week are Atlanta, Chicago, Cleveland, NY Giants, Philadelphia, and Baltimore.

SUN, OCT 31 TIME (ET)

Miami at Cincinnati 1:00 PM CBS – The Fins defense should wreak havoc on the Bengals front line spending much of the day chasing QB Carson Palmer from the safety of the pocket. The Bengals will struggle to find a way to counter the wildcat and contain the Miami rushing duo of Williams and Brown.

Jacksonville at Dallas 1:00 PM CBS – The Jags will want to head into their bye week with a big win in D-land. The Cowboys will need to contain RB Maurice Jones-Drew, as Jacksonville is likely to play it safe on the ground. If Dallas can get on the board early, this one could be over by the half.

Washington at Detroit 1:00 PM FOX – Could the match up of QBs Matthew Stafford and Donovan McNabb breathe life into a an ago old rivalry that has died with time? The Lions could put one in the win column at the Motor City, but the will need to pin down McNabb.

Buffalo at Kansas City 1:00 PM CBS – The Bills will deploy their front four to help put pressure on KC’s Matt Cassel and stop RB Jamaal Charles. For the Chiefs, there won’t be anything scary about Buffalo in this Halloween match up.

Carolina at St. Louis 1:00 PM FOX –Rookie QB Sam Bradford will continue to try and recreate the “Greatest Show on Turf” in this match up at the “ED” for a Horns Halloween treat. But can the Rams defense contend with both the Panthers running duo of DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart, along with the deep threat WR Steve Smith? St. Louis will load the box, but Carolina will give a trick, taking this one on the road.

Green Bay at NY Jets 1:00 PM FOX –Two young talents will go at it in this one as the Packers visit the new Meadowlands for the first time. Green Bay QB Aaron Rodgers seemed to peak at the right time in 2009 while Mark Sanchez still showed signs of immaturity. New York thrashed the Packers back in Dec. of 2006, but that won’t happen this time.

Denver at San Francisco 1:00 PM CBS –The two teams will met at England’s Wembley Stadium, a place that has hosted some of the greatest football players on the international stage. That’s’ soccer for you Yanks. The Niner’s charge will come in the form of Alex Smith, as the Broncos will probably still be deciding whom they will start under center on the plane ride over.

Tennessee at San Diego 4:05 PM CBS – The Titans have the run game that the Chargers used to have. But San Diego has QB Phillip Rivers and his lofty receiving unit. Too opposing styles will make this one and interesting one to watch.

Tampa Bay at Arizona 4:15 PM FOX – The Cardinals will rely on QB Matt Leinart to reinvent the Warner-esque passing game in this one. Can veteran Ronde Barber keep pace with Cards WR Larry Fitzgerald for a full 60 minutes? If he can, the Bucs may have a slim chance. I expect to see some wide-open football from Arizona, the same style that carried them to a Super Bowl just a few seasons ago.

Minnesota at New England 4:15 PM FOX – This has all the right ingredients to be e a benchmark showdown between two of the leagues most talented veteran quarterbacks, and possibly of all-time. Pats QB Tom Brady will opt to take to the air hooking up with his favorite target, ex-Viking Randy Moss. The Vikings on the other hand are more than Favre, and by mixing in the power of RB Adrian Peterson; they should win the Battle of Foxboro.

Seattle at Oakland 4:15 PM FOX – Julius Jones will be a sufficient threat to the Oakland run stoppers, but the secondary will also have their hands full if the Raiders front four can’t hurry Seahawks QB Matt Hasselbeck, who is likely to have a huge day with the help of WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh .

Pittsburgh at New Orleans 8:20 PM NBC – The defending Super Bowl champs will be just the second team to welcome back Steelers’ QB Ben Roethlisberger from his six-game suspension. By this juncture of the season the Saints are likely to be on cruise control while Big Ben may still be trying to get his footing. New Orleans could get in trouble if they get caught napping in this one.

MON, NOV 1 TIME (ET)

Houston at Indianapolis 8:30 PM – Well rested from their bye week the Texans will head to Indy to try and tame the Colts. Houston will be on a mission to prove to a national broadcast audience that the AFC South isn’t just about Indianapolis QB Peyton Manning. And more than eager to prove that will be Texans QB Matt Schaub. If he can hook up often with WR Andre Johnson and TE Owen Daniels, spreading the Indy defense, it just may happen.
