NFL Week 7 Preview, Match Ups & Predictions
As we approach two months of regular season action, Week 7 of the 2010-11 NFL gives us a couple interesting match ups. Among them is my pick for Game of the Week, Minnesota at Green Bay. These two teams are pretty evenly matched and could be a preview of this year’s NFC First-Round Playoff. Here I take a look at the matchups, giving you some early insight that will help make your 2010 NFL wagers winners. Teams with byes this week are Detroit, Indianapolis, NY Jets, and Houston.
SUN, OCT 24 TIME (ET)
Cincinnati at Atlanta 1:00 PM CBS – Two of the leagues best wide receivers will square off as Chad Johnson goes head-to head with hometown prodigy Roddy White. The two teams play a similar style strategy so this could be a showdown. Can the youthful Matt Ryan outduel veteran Carson Palmer. The magic “Ochocinco” ball says. “Signs point to yes.”
Washington at Chicago 1:00 PM FOX –Redskins’ QB Donavan McNabb marches onto Soldier Field under a different banner but he will be greeted with the same hostility. CB Carlos Rogers and the rest of the Washington secondary could have a big day against the Bears’ Jay Cutler, who is likely to have more INT’s then TD’s after this one.
Philadelphia at Tennessee 1:00 PM FOX – Tennessee won’t be displaying any brotherly love to the Eagles when they come to town. The Titans should be able to pull of an important non-conference home win behind the shock and awe of running back Chris Johnson.
Jacksonville at Kansas City 1:00 PM CBS – This will be a full on ground assault pitting Jags veteran running back Maurice Jones-Drew against the promising young Jamaal Charles. KC’s chances of getting a win over a more beatable AFC South team at Arrowhead seems possible, especially if they load the line and stack the box.
Pittsburgh at Miami 1:00 PM CBS – Miami will be the first to face Ben Roethlisberger coming off his six game suspension. The key here is for the Steelers defense to not fall prey by over-committing to the Fin’s tricky wildcat offense.
Cleveland at New Orleans 1:00 PM CBS – Initially looking at this match up I’d probably say that the Saints should win this by multiple touchdowns. But let’s not forget the Browns finished off the 2009 season with four consecutive wins including a 13-6 win over Pittsburg. As long as the Cleveland D can keep New Orleans QB Drew Brees from tossing 300+ yards, they may be able to hang long enough to make this one interesting.
St. Louis at Tampa Bay 1:00 PM FOX – One of the best opportunities for St. Louis to pick up a rare road victory but it won’t be easy. They will need to contain RB Cadillac Williams and put the pressure on young QB Josh Freeman. The Bucs will be coming off a big game against the Saints in Week 6, and hosting the struggling Rams at the Dawg Pound will be a welcome occasion.
San Francisco at Carolina 1:00 PM FOX – Panthers quarterback Matt Moore will likely spend his day trying to hook up with WR Steve Smith, or running away from Niner’s linebacker Patrick Willis. Carolina will need to make use of running back DeAngelo Williams, chewing up yardage in this low scoring affair.
Buffalo at Baltimore 1:00 PM CBS –The Bills will have to dig deep to find an ounce of offense that could lift them to an upset in ‘Charm City’. The Ravens are an evolving team and seem to get even better as the season progresses. The Baltimore defense should have no problem winning this one.
Arizona at Seattle 4:05 PM FOX – Fresh off a bye week the Cardinals will role into the Emerald City ready and fully rested for this divisional match up. Seattle head coach Pete Carroll will get to see if his off-season additions to the Seahawks secondary pay dividends, as they will face the Arizona receiving duo of Larry Fitzgerald and Steve Breaston.
New England at San Diego 4:15 PM CBS –The biggest question here is whether the Pats secondary can contain San Diego QB Phillip Rivers and his towering receiving corps. At the same New England’s Tom Brady will look to exploit a weaker Bolts secondary hooking up multiple times with his favorite target –Randy Moss.
Oakland at Denver 4:15 PM CBS –The Raiders will want to counter an over aggressive Broncos defense mixing up the short and long passing game between TE Zach Miller and WR Darrius Heyward-Bey. But if Oakland QB Jason Campbell fails find his targets, the Broncs won’t have any trouble dispatching this division rival.
Minnesota at Green Bay 8:20 PM NBC – One of the NFL’s best rivalries got better when Green Bay’s favorite son, Brett Favre, came out of retirement to dawn the purple and gold. Can the clever veteran outgun the Packers’ Aaron Rodgers in a place he is all too familiar with? There will be no love in Lambeau when these two teams collide.
MON, OCT 25 TIME (ET)
NY Giants at Dallas 8:30 PM – The Giants will travel to the Big D for a classic NFC East showdown. New York will be looking to return the favor after Dallas beat them 31-24 in the Big Apple last season. The Giants defense will look to take advantage of an aging Dallas offensive line, but don’t be surprised if the Cowboys become Giant killers in this one.
