THU, SEP 9 TIME (ET)
Minnesota at New Orleans 8:30 PM NBC – The reigning champion Saints should be favorites to win this one against the Vikings who they beat in the NFC Championship game in 2009. But with the return of Brett Favre and the bitter taste of being beat in an overtime loss that ended their season, the Vikings will be looking for a little revenge.
SUN, SEP 12 TIME (ET)
Miami at Buffalo 1:00 PM CBS- It’s been 11 years since the Bills have made a playoff appearance but fans will be hopeful as Clemson standout C.J. Spiller dawns a Bills uniform fro the first time this season. The Fins will look to spoil the youngster’s debut as they avenge last year’s 31-14 loss at Buffalo.
Oakland at Tennessee 1:00 PM CBS – After being crowned the AFC champs and earning the No. 1 seed for the 2008-09 season, Tennessee went 0-6 to start the 2010 season before coming on strong in the second half to finish 8-8. Three wins better than the Raiders who finished a miserable 5-11. The Titans will hope to get off to a better start this season with a blowout home win over Oakland to start their 2010-11 campaign.
Cincinnati at New England 1:00 PM CBS – Both the Pats and the Bengals made early playoff exits in 2009-10 even after both teams finished the regular season atop their respective divisions. It will be a tough year for Cincinnati to reclaim top honors, and New England will have their work cut out on their way to recapturing the essence of the Super Bowl contenders they have been over the past decade.
Carolina at NY Giants 1:00 PM FOX – The Giants will be looking to break in their new digs with a win over the Carolina Panthers, a team that dominated them 41-9 late last season. Both teams failed to make the playoffs with 8-8 records to finish third in their respective divisions. So an early win for both early is crucial to turning things around.
Atlanta at Pittsburgh 1:00 PM FOX – Both teams failed to make the playoffs last year after making the postseason the previous year, and each will be wanting to get off to a fast start.
Injuries and off field losses on offense that includes a 4-6 suspension of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger to start the season, could put Pittsburgh in a hole early on. The Falcons should bring an expanded attack, as Ryan’s knowledge of his offense should continue to develop.
Cleveland at Tampa Bay 1:00 PM CBS – The Bucs and the Browns continue to struggle as both teams are in rebuilding mode, but each comes into the 2010 season ready to build off of strong finishes in 2009. The Browns won its final four games while the Bucs shocked the Super Bowl champion Saints late in the season.
Denver at Jacksonville 1:00 PM CBS – Both the Broncos and the Jags each barley missed making a playoff run last year, even after Denver opened the season with six straight wins. The Broncs have put their quarterback controversy to rest, electing to go with Kyle Orton, and coaches Josh McDaniels and Jack Del Rio each need early wins to stay off the chopping block.
Indianapolis at Houston 1:00 PM CBS – After losing both meetings to the Colts last season including a 35-27 road win at Houston, the Texans will look to get an early edge on their division rival en route to making the playoffs for the first time in franchise history.
Detroit at Chicago 1:00 PM FOX – The Bears won both meetings with Detroit last year, including a 48-24 victory at Soldier Field. Detroit can’t go anywhere but up after an abysmal 2-14 season, while Jay Cutler and Co. should see positive results from an infused Mike Martz potent passing attack offense.
San Francisco at Seattle 4:15 PM FOX – Seahawks QB Hasselbeck will have to adjust to a new offense that focuses on a lot of motion and formation shifts as Pete Carroll takes command for his first game as Seattle’s head coach. San Francisco is a team that’s on the rise and will look to build on a decent 2009 season under the watchful and critical eye of Mike Singletary.
Green Bay at Philadelphia 4:15 PM FOX – With Michael Vick’s future with the team remaining uncertain, it’s likely that the Eagles will have a new quarterback when they step onto Lincoln Financial Field to start the 2010 season. Kevin Kolb will look to lead Philly, in just his third career start, to an early win as he guns it out with Aaron Rodger, who is on the heels of his first Pro Bowl appearance in just his second season as a starter.
Arizona at St. Louis 4:15 PM FOX – The Rams were the worst team in 2009-10 finishing with just a single win in 17 games, and it’s not likely things will be getting better any time soon as St. Louis will start the year with unproven quarterback rookie Sam Bradford under center. Meanwhile, Matt Leinart will inherit the starting roll for the defending NFC champion Cardinals in the wake of retiring MVP and Pro Bowl quarterback QB Kurt Warner.
Dallas at Washington 8:20 PM NBC – The Cowboys scalped the Redskins both meetings last season including a 17-0 road victory late in the year. But the Redskins have brought in new head coach Mike Shanahan and a few new offensive weapons, including QB Donovan McNabb, and will look to put some excitement back in this long tome rivalry.
MON, SEP 13 TIME (ET)
Baltimore at NY Jets 7:00 PM – Jets’ head coach Rex Ryan goes up against his former team in the first of two Monday Night games. Ryan served several years as Ravens’ defensive coordinator, helping lead them to a Super Bowl victory. This will be a great match up, as the Ravens will look to stuff Ryan with there suffocating defense.
San Diego at Kansas City 10:15 PM – In the second of two Monday Night games, the Chargers will try to win their first game without LaDanian Tomlinson. The Chiefs, who fished dead last in the AFC West, are expected to be much improved under second year head coach Todd Haley, who has brought in Romeo Crennel and Charlie Weiss to serve as defensive and offensive coordinators, respectively.
