Chicago Bears @ Minnesota Vikings – Sunday December 9, 2012 1:00PM EST
If you had bet that the Chicago Bears would beat the Seattle Seahawks in week 13, then you would not have been alone. There has been so much press about the play of quarterback Russell Wilson that people can easily forget how good the Seattle defense is. The problem is that the Chicago Bears’ defense was not able to meet the challenge against the Seahawks and shut down the Seattle offense. In its week 14 game against divisional rival Minnesota, the Bears will re-establish its dominance on defense and come away with an incredibly important divisional win.
Fans tend to forget how good the Minnesota Vikings’ defense is because of all of the talk about quarterback Christian Ponder and running back Adrian Peterson. The football betting world wonders how far the Vikings could go if it had a quarterback that could really take advantage of the space the running game gives him. Adrian Peterson is a threat every time he touches the football, but Christian Ponder has been unable to develop a play-action game to go along with that running game. It seems like something that should be so automatic that any quarterback should be able to get it done. But ever since week 5, Ponder has struggled to gain control of a Minnesota offense that is getting more and more predictable.
Chicago Bears
Every bookie agent knows that the Chicago Bears’ offense is for real. Quarterback Jay Cutler, wide receiver Brandon Marshall and running back Matt Forte offer a strong set of offensive weapons. As hard as it is to believe, the problems for the Bears lately have been on defense. The Bears’ defense has had problems stopping the opposing offense for a couple of weeks now. The on and off injuries to running back Matt Forte are also not helping the offense to get any groove going. But the Bears should have it all figured out in time for this game.
Minnesota Vikings
There is a strong push by the Vikings’ organization to convince fans that Christian Ponder is the quarterback of the future. A sportsbook review of the quarterback’s season shows that he is not giving the fans much confidence in his abilities to lead the team to a championship. The strong defense that Minnesota has will not be together forever. Ponder is going to need to find ways to turn the exploits of Adrian Peterson into a strong passing game or else these last four games could be ugly for the Vikings.
The Bottom Line
Chicago is now in a dog fight with Green Bay for the NFC North title. The Vikings is slowly falling out of the race and another divisional loss for Minnesota could spell the end of the team’s playoff hopes. The Bears will come into this game with a purpose and it will turn that purpose into a much-needed win.
