New York Jets @ St. Louis Rams – Sunday November 18, 2012 1:00PM EST
The online sports books love following the New York Jets each week because the Jets never fail to generate a unique headline. In week 10, the Jets put quarterback Tim Tebow in for a few more plays than it has in the past and Tebow wound up going three for three in passing. Fans started to wonder if the Tim Tebow era was on the horizon for the Jets. But that was squashed when anonymous players from the Jets’ team were quoted in the local newspapers as saying that Tim Tebow is a terrible quarterback. The circus continues in New York as the season slips away.
The Rams do not have those same issues with its team. One thing that head coach Jeff Fisher is known for is maintaining control over his locker room. That is why the NFL betting experts are not surprised to see dramatic improvements in the Rams from last season to this season. The most immediate impact that Jeff Fisher had on the St. Louis Rams was to improve the confidence of quarterback Sam Bradford. As Bradford’s attitude improves, so does the St. Louis offense. With running back Steven Jackson still carrying the load in the backfield, the St. Louis Rams could be a playoff contender as early as next season.
New York Jets
The online football betting experts will give the New York Jets credit for knowing how to generate headlines, even when the team is losing. The Jets are actually in a bad situation because, when wide receiver Santonio Holmes was injured for the season, the Jets officially lost any real effective weapons it had on offense. The problem is not the play of quarterback Mark Sanchez, it is the fact that Sanchez has no one to throw to. The lack of confidence that the team has expressed in Tebow has probably sealed Tebow’s fate in New York. But that does not mean that things will get better with the Jets.
St. Louis Rams
It is amazing how little adjustment the St. Louis offense needed to be effective. Where the betting sites see a need for improvement in St. Louis is on defense, and that will probably be addressed when the 2012 season is over. Jeff Fisher is developing a culture of winning in St. Louis and he has quarterback Sam Bradford believing in himself. Now Fisher needs to bring in a defense to compliment his improving offense.
The Bottom Line
The Jets’ problems are a combination of unfortunate injuries and self-inflicted wounds. New York obviously has a divided locker room and the lack of unity shows on the field. The Rams have always hung together, but now the team has a winning feeling that it has not had in a while. Look for the Rams to sink the Jets even lower and create even more chaos in New York.
