NFC Week 6 Predictions

Top 3 NFC Matchups – Week 6

The NFC remains wide open this year as there is yet to be any team (or teams) to emerge as the front-runner to win the conference. Atlanta’s 20-10 win over Cleveland last week moved its record to 4-1 and atop the NFC South. Chicago is also 4-1 after an absolutely ugly 23-6 win over Carolina, but the Bears hardly look like the team to beat. The New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles at 3-2 appear to be waiting in the wings, ready to make their move. As a matter of contrast, the final four teams in the playoffs last season; New Orleans, Minnesota, Dallas, and Arizona have a combined record of just 8-10.

Here is a look at my top three matchups in the NFC for Week 4 of the NFL season. All odds are provided by BetUS.com.

vs.

New Orleans (-5) @ Tampa Bay

New Orleans is still trying to figure out what went wrong in last week’s 30-20 loss to Arizona in a game it completely dominated everywhere but on the scoreboard. Four turnovers including three interceptions by QB Drew Brees did not help especially since two directly resulted in Cardinals’ touchdowns.

Tampa Bay continues to be one of the biggest surprises of the season. The Buccaneers are 3-1, matching their entire win total from a year ago. Their offense is ranked 21st and their defense is ranked 18th but they continue to find ways to win.

The Saints are 1-5 ATS in their last six road games and 3-13 ATS in their last 16 games against the NFC. The Buccaneers are 5-2 ATS in their last seven games overall and 11- ATS in their last 15 games as a home underdog of 3 ½ to 10 points. Tampa loses but finds a way to keep it closer than five points.

vs.

Atlanta @ Philadelphia (-3)

Atlanta comes into this game as the most balanced team in the NFC. The Falcon’s offense is ranked seventh in the league behind QB Matt Ryan and a solid rushing attack. Their defense is ranked 10th in the league and second in points allowed.

It looks like Philadelphia QB Kevin Kolb will get call again this week as Michael Vick is still recovering from a rib injury. Last week in a 27-24 win over San Francisco he completed 21-of-31 attempts for 253 yards and one TD.

The Falcons are 5-1 ATS in their last six games as an underdog and 5-1 ATS in their last six on the road. The Eagles are 1-4 ATS in their last five games as a home favorite. If Vick is somehow healthy enough to play Philadelphia has a chance otherwise its win No. 5 for Atlanta.

vs.

Dallas @ Minnesota (-2)

Dallas’s streak of five consecutive wins after a bye week came to a screeching halt after a 34-27 loss to Tennessee last Sunday. Cowboy QB Tony Romo has already thrown five interceptions in his first four games after throwing only nine all last season.

Minnesota QB Brett Favre is following up one of his best seasons ever with probably the worst start in his career. He has completed only 56.5 percent of his passes, thrown seven interceptions, and has a passer rating of 67.

The Cowboys are 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall and 1-6 ATS in their last seven games against Minnesota. The Vikings are 6-1-1 ATS in their last eight home games. Minnesota does just enough to avoid being called the most talented 1-4 team in the league; handing that honor to Dallas.
