Top 3 NFC Matchups – Week 4
The 2010 season has already taken some strange twists and it is only three weeks old. Chicago is the only team in the conference that is still undefeated after knocking off Green Bay 20-17 last Monday night. The last time the Bears started 3-0 was in 2006 when they went all the way to the Super Bowl. The top two teams last season; New Orleans and Minnesota already have more combined losses than they did through Week 14 of last year. The Saints were stunned by the Falcons at home 27-24 when their kicker Garrett Hartley missed a 29 yard chip shot to win the game in overtime. One can only imagine what surprises this week will bring.
Here is a look at my top three matchups in the NFC for Week 4 of the NFL season. All odds are provided by Sportsbook.com

Detroit Lions @ Green Bay Packers (14 ½) Over/Under: 45 ½
Detroit is off to a 0-3 start but should be at least 1-2 and possibly 2-1 after losing two games that had a chance to win. Last week against Minnesota, the Lions could do nothing on offense as they were held to 295 total yards and 10 points. QB Shaun Hill will be making his third start of the season in relief of Matthew Stafford, who is still recovering from a Week 1 shoulder injury.
Green Bay set a team record with 18 penalties for 152 yards in a sloppy 20-17 loss to Chicago on Monday night. The usually disciplined Packers continually shot themselves in the foot in a game they dominated from a statistical standpoint but let slip away through numerous penalties, turnovers, and poor special teams play.
The Lions are 3-7-2 against the spread in their last 12 games against the NFC. The Packers are 10-4 ATS in their last 14 games against the NFC North. Detroit is just 1-7 ATS against Green Bay in the eight games. All this adds up to another big win for the Packers at home.

Washington Redskins @ Philadelphia Eagles (-6) Over/Under: 42 ½
Washington QB Donovan McNabb has thrown for 833 yards and two TD’s but his team is still just 1-2. The Redskins have had major problems running the ball on offense and stopping the pass on defense.
Philadelphia QB Michael Vick, McNabb’s replacement, has thrown for 750 yards and six TD’s and his team is 2-1. The Eagles have also had some breakdowns on defense, as they are ranked 11th in yards allowed but 20th in points allowed.
The Redskins are 3-1-1 ATS in their last five road games. The Eagles are 1-4 ATS in their last five home games. Washington is 7-3-1 ATS in its last 11 games against Philadelphia. Vick and the Eagles get the win but it will be by less than six points.

Chicago Bears @ New York Giants (-4) Over/Under: 44 ½
Chicago is 3-0 but has had a lot of help in getting there. An apparent game-winning touchdown catch that was later ruled incomplete gave the Bears the win against Detroit, and a complete breakdown in mental discipline by the Packers gave them the win over Green Bay.
New York has looked dreadful in its last two games, getting outscored 67-14. The Giants offense is ranked eighth in total yards per game, but 20th in total points. Their defense is ranked 10th in total yards allowed, but 30th in total points allowed.
The Bears are 4-1 ATS in their last five games against the NFC. The Giants 2-7 ATS in their last nine games as a favorite. The road team is 5-0 ATS in the last five games between these two. Chicago should roll to 4-0 against a woefully out-of-balance New York team.
