NFC Week 12 Match Ups & Predictions

New Orleans and Minnesota continue to roll and with only six games remaining seem to be a lock to not only win their division, but secure home field advantage and a first round bye in the playoffs. The Saints started slow out of the gate again, falling behind 7 -0 to Tampa, but went on to score 38 unanswered points to get their 10th straight win. Brett Favre completed 88% of his passes and threw for 4 TD’s as the Vikings stomped the Seahawks 35 to 9 to go to 9-1 on the year. The NFC East division race is heating up as 7-3 Dallas has a one game lead over 6-4 Philadelphia and New York. The Cowboys squeaked out an ugly 7-6 win over Washington and have only scored 14 points in their last two games. The Giants blew a 14 point 4th Qt. lead but were able to kick a game winning field goal in overtime to beat the Falcons 34-31. On Sunday night the Eagles pulled away from the Bears on RB LeSean McCoy’s 10 yard touchdown run with a little over five minutes to play. At 7-3, Arizona is now in firm control of the NFC West after beating St. Louis 21-13 to open up a three game lead over San Francisco. The 49ers lost to Green Bay 30-24 to fall to 4-6 on the year. The Packer’s victory moved their record to 6-4, three games behind the Vikings in the NFC North, but still in prime position to secure a wildcard spot in the playoffs.

Moving onto week twelve, the key match ups we will be reviewing are; Green Bay@ Detroit, Chicago@ Minnesota, and Washington@ Philadelphia.

Green Bay Packers (-8) @ Detroit Lions (Thanksgiving Day)       Current Over/Under 45

In the traditional first game on Thanksgiving, Detroit is hosting Green Bay this year and after last week’s display of offense and last second heroics by Lion QB Matthew Stafford, this game could be more interesting than you would normally think. The Packers have won their last two and are firmly planted right in the middle of the wildcard race with a record of 6-4. They beat the Lions back in week six, shutting them out 26-0 so you would have to think they are a lock to beat them again this week. While I’m not too sure that Detroit can pull off an outright upset, this game is their Super Bowl and they would love nothing more than to send Green Bay home with a loss. Stafford and the rest of this team showed a lot of heart, pulling out last week’s win against the Browns and should be able to carry that momentum into a short week. The Lions and the OVER.

Chicago Bears @ Minnesota Vikings (-11)          Current Over/Under 47

The Bears struggled on offense last Sunday night in a 24-20 loss to the Eagles as they only managed 284 total yards and converted just 18% of their third downs which will definitely not be enough against the high powered Vikings. Minnesota rolled to its ninth win of the season with a 35-9 win over the Seahawks. They are averaging 30.6 points per game and 375.3 yards of total offense and their timeless QB Brett Favre has the highest passer rating in the league at 112.1. To make matters worse for the Bears, Minnesota RB Adrian Peterson is the third leading rusher in the league and Sidney Rice is the third leading receiver. This all adds up to another long day for Chicago’s defense which has looked out of sync ever since LB Brian Urlacher was lost for the season with a dislocated wrist. The Vikings and the OVER.

Washington Redskins @ Philadelphia Eagles (-9)     Current Over/Under 41

Last week against the Cowboys, Washington put up a valiant fight but was unable to get out of their own way in a 7-6 loss that should have been a win. Missed field goals, penalties, and turnovers proved costly against a Dallas team that seemed destined to lose this game, but still managed to somehow pull it out, scoring a touchdown late in the game. This loss dropped Washington to 3-7 and effectively ended any chance at saving their season. They now have to head to Philadelphia to play an Eagle team that is coming off a big win against the Bears, keeping their playoff hopes very much alive. The Redskins defense will try and keep them in the game, but the combination of the disappointment of last week’s loss and Philly’s new found momentum will be too much for them to handle. The Eagles and the UNDER.
