2010 NFC North – Win Totals Preview, Predictions & Picks
As all 32 teams are back in training camp to begin preparing for the 2010 NFL football season, it is time to take a look at the projected win total for each team to try and determine whether they will go over, stay under, or push. Today we take a look at each team in the NFC North.
Minnesota Vikings – Win Total Prediction: 9 ½
The’will he or won’t he be back` saga of Brett Favre has once again hit fever pitch. As he waits for his ankle to heal, the real question for Minnesota is not so much if, but rather when Favre will be ready to go? If backup QB Tarvaris Jackson has to spend any time behind center to start the year the losses could pile up early for the Vikings as they have to play New Orleans, N.Y. Jets, Dallas, New England, and Green Bay in their first seven games. This team is still loaded with talent on both sides of the ball, but having a healthy Favre as the starter is probably the difference between another Super Bowl run and barely making the playoffs. A bad ankle and a brutal schedule keeps Minnesota at nine wins – UNDER.
Green Bay Packers – Win Total Prediction: 9 ½
Green Bay went 11-5 last season with two of those losses coming at the hands of its former quarterback Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings. Despite losing to Arizona 45-51 in the Wildcard round of the playoffs in one of the wildest postseason games ever, the Packers were playing at a very high level on both sides of the ball down the stretch in 2009. With QB Aaron Rodgers firmly in place, an improved offensive line and a sound defense Green Bay is poised for an even better year in 2010. Two key dates on this year’s schedule are Week 7 when the Vikings come to town and Week 11 when they travel to Minnesota. Regardless of whether or not Favre is behind center for those games, the balance of power in the North has shifted back towards the Packers – OVER.
Chicago Bears – Win Total Prediction: 8
When Chicago traded with Denver for quarterback Jay Cutler before last season, it believed it had finally acquired the missing piece to creating a team capable of winning the division. After a lackluster performance in 2009, the Bears have now brought in Mike Martz as offensive coordinator in an effort to get Cutler and this offense pointed in the right direction. With the addition of DE Julius Peppers the defense should be better, but there are still a number of question marks on both sides of the ball for this team. With the NFC and AFC East both on the schedule along with two games against the both Packers and the Vikings in the division, there is enough losses right there to keep them from getting to .500 – UNDER.
