New York Jets 2010 Odds, Previews, and Predictions
Current odds to win: Division: 7-5 Conference: 6-1 Super Bowl: 12-1
New York finished second in the AFC East with a 9-7 record. They were 4-4 at home and 5-3 on the road. They went 2-4 in the division and 7-5 in the conference.
They lost to the Indianapolis Colts 30-17 in the AFC Conference Championship.
Outlook for 2010
The Jets main claim to fame was finishing the regular season with the #1 ranked defense and the #1 ranked rushing offense in the league. They carried this dominance through two big postseason wins before falling to the Colts in the AFC Championship. First year head coach Rex Ryan was able to talk the talk and walk the walk by instilling a brashness and swagger back into the entire organization.
QB Mark Sanchez will be under the gun to avoid a sophomore slump as his play last year as a rookie was certainly not spectacular but adequate enough to get the job done. After deciding to release RB Thomas Jones they signed RB LaDanian Tomlinson, who was released by San Diego and resigned Leon Washington to a one year deal. They also drafted Joe McKnight from USC in the fourth round to give them additional depth. They traded with Pittsburgh for WR Santonio Holmes to give Sanchez another downfield target.
Defensively they brought in long time Miami Dolphin DE Jason Taylor to help with the pass rush and drafted CB Kyle Wilson from Boise State with the 29th pick in the first round, making a very good defensive backfield that much better.
With only four picks in the draft and not a lot of free agency activity the Jets seem content to primarily go with the roster that got them one win away from the Super Bowl last season. As far as the 2010 season there are two things we know for sure; they will continue to run the ball on offense and attack teams from every possible angle on defense.
2010 Prediction: 10-6 and 2nd in the AFC East with a Wildcard berth.
