NFL betting players aren’t thinking much about the New York Jets this year, but maybe rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez can bring some shine back, seeing as the other team from New York are two years removed from the Super Bowl. The two meet at Giants Stadium, a stadium they share.
Jets vs Giants odds – Saturday, August 29, 8:00 PM ET
The Jets have lost their two preseason games by a combined total of four points, but things have been encouraging. Sanchez was named the starting quarterback, and he’s impressed in the preseason. His last game was a bit of a mixed bag, as he threw a pick that was run back for a touchdown, but he also threw his first major. The Jets’ offense has been very disciplined under new coach Rex Ryan, as the offense has committed only eight penalties. Not hurting yourself is an excellent way to boost your Super Bowl odds, which the Jets don’t have to worry about this year, but they will soon enough.
The Giants’ offense has struggled, coming in 26th in the preseason, and Eli Manning is having trouble getting used to his receivers, or it could be the other way around. This puts even more pressure on their ground game, which led the NFL in 2008, but it would be even better if Manning and the passing game could keep opposing defenses honest. If there was a positive in a 17-3 loss in Chicago, it was a 55-yard passing play between Manning and first-round pick Hakeem Nicks.
The Giants have won six of their last nine meetings with the Jets, and come into this game as a 3-point favorite in your betting online book. If Sanchez had problems with the Baltimore defense, he’ll have his hands full with the Giants, especially with the pass-rushing capabilities of Justin Tuck and Osi Umenyiora. The Giants are also hungry after that performance in Chicago, and they’ll come out with both guns blazing. This will be the best chance we get to see the first-string players before the regular season, and the Giants will be out to make a statement, while Sanchez and the Jets are just looking to improve. Take the Giants in your sports picks on Saturday.
