Jacksonville Jaguars 2010 NFL Record:8-8 Home: 5-3 Away: 3-5
Jacksonville finished second in the AFC South last year with an 8-8 record. The Jaguars were 5-3 at home and 3-5 on the road. They went 3-3 in the division and 7-5 in the conference.
They failed to qualify for the postseason.
Jacksonville Jaguars 2011 Preview
Jack Del Rio begins his ninth season as Jacksonville’s head coach, but patience may be wearing thin as his team has not been over .500 since 2007. The Jaguars got off to a strong start in 2010 but three straight losses to close out the year ended any chance of reversing this trend last season.
Looking toward the future, patience is definitely wearing thin with David Garrard as the starting quarterback. Jacksonville used the 10th overall pick in the draft to select Missouri quarterback Blaine Gabbert. Del Rio has not ruled out the possibility that Gabbert could be the starter on opening day against Tennessee. Neither player has looked too sharp in the first few weeks of the preseason as third-stringer Luke McCown has actually played the best so far.
Regardless of which quarterback gets the start, the primary role will be to hand the ball off to running back Maurice Jones-Drew, who led the team with 1,324 yards rushing last season. The Jaguars ended the 2010 season ranked 27th in the league in passing yards per game, but third in rushing with an average of 149.7 yards a game.
The real issues on this team could be on the defensive side of the ball. Jacksonville was dreadful last season; ranking near the bottom of the league in just about every major category. It was ranked 28th in overall yards allowed and 27th in points allowed. The Jaguars seem content to try and change their fortunes with their current personnel, but they did sign free-agent linebackers Paul Posluszny, who played his previous four seasons in Buffalo and Gerris Wilkinson, who spent his first five seasons in the league with the Giants to add some depth in the middle.
Jacksonville has games against the Jets, Saints, Steelers, and Ravens before a bye in Week 9 and close the season out with games against San Diego, Tampa Bay, Atlanta, and Indianapolis so the danger of a slow start and another late season collapse remain very real for this team.
