New York Giants
Do you think Eli Manning asked his brother to have neck surgery so people would stop talking about his ridiculous comment about him being a top 5 QB? Sure he has won a Super Bowl and is far from the weakest link on the team but seriously. Tthere is no evidence to support that claim but it did distract from poking at a Giants team that could win anywhere between 4 and 10 games in my opinion.
The Giants have a lot of the same faces on offense this year. Running backs Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs return, so do Hakeem Nicks and Mario Manningham at receiver and we already talked about Eli. Last year this was a top 10 offense in yards and points and when it is all said and done it probably will be again provided the line play continues to be good. They are not flashy but they move the ball and score.

On defense, the Giants may be without lineman Justin Tuck on Sunday…and Osi Umenyiora. If so this takes a major bite out of the Giant’s pass rush which is the strongest part of their defense. Lucky for the G-Men the Washington QBs do not need to be harrassed into making mistakes. They are quite willing to do that on their own. Their linebackers and secondary can definitely be exploited but might be spared on Sunday by a weak Washington attack.
Washington Redskins
Washington has to be the weirdest team in the NFL. They seem to change their mind every two seconds and when you look at their roster I don’t see much that leads me to believe that can even match last year’s win total of 6. This is the third time in 4 years they have opened the season against New York and they lost the previous two on the road. I am not sure being home is enough to change the outcome.
If you look at this team closely it is easy to not like their quarterback, running back and receiver personnel. They are littered with castoffs with the exception of Santana Moss and Chris Cooley – who you have to love just because he is hilarious and he married a cheerleader. Throw in an offensive line that is sub par at best and I just don’t see how this team is going to score enough points to win with regularity…or on Sunday.
The Redskins defense is better but other than DeAngelo Hall and Brian Orakpo there is not much to fear. Drafting DE/OLD Ryan Kerrigan was a smart pick – he gets by as much on motor as anything else so he might be able to inspire the rest of the team. Last year the Skins dropped both of their games to New York scoring just 21 points in the process. Likely starter, Rex Grossman was hot in the finale but it wasn’t enough. I expect a repeat of that outcome.
