New York is coming off a huge 29-16 victory over Philadelphia as a 7.5-point road underdog in a game that just stayed ‘under’ the 46.5-point line. The win moved the Giants to 2-1 straight-up on the year, but more importantly, evened-out their division record at 1-1 after an ugly 28-14 loss to Washington as 1.5-point road favorites on opening day. The total in that game went ‘over’ the 41-point line.
The key to Sunday’s win was Eli Manning’s ability to make some big plays, while protecting the ball. He finished with 16 completions on 23 attempts for 254 yards and four touchdowns. With a depleted receiving corps, he was able to connect with back-up wide receiver Victor Cruz for three receptions for 110 yards and two scores. Ahmad Bradshaw had a solid day running the ball with 15 carries for 86 yards.
Arizona’s rebuilt offense scored 49 points in its first two games behind quarterback Kevin Kolb, but the production ground to a halt this past Sunday in a 13-10 loss to Seattle as a three-point road favorite. The total stayed well ‘under’ the 42.5-point line. The Cardinals are now 1-2 SU and 2-1 against the spread.
Kolb completed 25-of-39 attempts for 252 yards and one score, but was picked-off twice to raise his season total to five touchdown passes verse three interceptions. There was little doubt that the Cardinals missed running back Beanie Wells in the lineup, who remains questionable for this game with a hamstring injury. He ran for 183 yards in the first two games, but more importantly, averaged 5.7 yards a carry.
New York is 2-4 ATS in its last six games on the road and the total has stayed ‘under’ in four of those six games. Arizona is 6-12 ATS in its last 18 games overall and the total has gone ‘over’ in eight of its last 10 games at home.
These two teams last met in 2009 with the Cardinals stunning the Giants24-17 as eight-point road underdogs. With the hometown crowd on their side this time around, stick with them to pull off another shocker with a second straight-up win as an underdog.
The odds makers have the New York Giants as a -3 point favorite with an over/under of 45.
