Philadelphia Eagles at San Francisco 49ers 8:20 PM NBC – Just when things were looking good for Philly, QB Michael Vick goes down with a as a rib cartilage injury in last week’s 17-12 loss to Washington. Once starter Kevin Kolb is expected to make his first start since Week 1 as the Eagles try to send San Francisco to its first 0-5 start in 31 years. But which 49’ers team will Philly get? The team that was blown out two weeks ago by the Chiefs? Or, the team that was a muffed fumble away from beating Atlanta? The 49ers play at home, so the effort will be there, but it’s going to take a mass amount of improvement and quickly. It has to begin with starting QB Alex Smith who has had a miserable start to the 2010 campaign, tying for the league lead in interceptions with seven, and is ranked near the bottom among all NFL quarterbacks in passer rating. In spite of the 49ers’ problems with its passing attack, running back Frank Gore has been exceptional, leading the NFC in yards and ranking second in the conference with 29 receptions. Likewise, Philadelphia’ s LeSean McCoy, is having a breakout year with a team-high 273 rushing yards and four TDs. McCoy, though, is questionable after suffering a broken rib in the first half of last Sunday’s loss. I’d like to think we’ll see a revamped San Francisco, but bad habits will be hard to break.
The odds makers have the 49ers as a -3 point favorite with an over/under of 38.
