Dallas Cowboys 2010 NFL Record: 6-10 Home: 2-6 Away: 4-4
Dallas finished third in the NFC East last year with a 6-10 record. The Cowboys were 2-6 at home and 4-4 on the road. They went 3-3 in the division and 4-8 in the conference.
They failed to qualify for the postseason.
Dallas Cowboys 2011 Preview
After a forgettable 2010 season that led to firing of Wade Phillips and the promotion of Jason Garrett to the top spot, the Cowboys are ready to put the past behind them and once again gear-up for a run at the NFC East division title. They won the East in 2009 with an overall record of 11-5 and knocked off Philadelphia 34-14 in the playoffs, so they are not that far removed from a place at the top.
Garrett will have his regular starting quarterback Tony Romo in the lineup for the first time since he went down in Week 6 last season with a broken collar bone. Romo’s best season since becoming the Cowboys’ starter in 2006 was two years ago when he threw for 4,483 yards and 26 touchdowns. The other good news is that WR Dez Bryant is back and healthy after breaking his ankle late in the season last year. WR Miles Austin and TE Jason Whitten remain Romo’s primary two targets and are coming off a year where the two combined for 163 receptions for 2,043 yards.
Felix Jones and Tashard Choice will anchor the running game after Marion Barbers was recently released. RB DeMarco Murray, a third-round draft pick out of Oklahoma will help to add some outside speed to the lineup as well as become another threat to make some big plays catching the ball out of the backfield.
Rob Ryan was brought over from Cleveland to handle the coaching duties for the defense. His task is to improve a squad that had one of the highest payrolls in the league, but ended the 2010 season ranked 23rd overall and was second-worst in the NFL in points allowed. One area of immediate concern is a groin injury to CB Terrence Newman, which could linger into the start of the regular season. He has already been ruled out of the entire preseason, but is expected to be ready to go for the season opener against the Jets.
Despite cutting a number big named players whose salaries far out-weighed their recent contributions, this Dallas team is still loaded with talent on both sides of the ball. Last year’s six wins was just an aberration as the Cowboys return to their winning ways in 2011.
Dallas Cowboys 2011 Season Prediction
