The Houston Texans will kick off their regular season with a home game against division rival the Indianapolis Colts. Houston, obviously, hasn’t been very successful against the Colts since coming into the league, but this game is poles apart for a much different reason: no Peyton Manning.

Manning will miss the Colts’ season opener, as his streak of 227 consecutive starts –second all-time at quarterback in the NFL, comes to an end, and it couldn’t have came at a worse time for the Colts. Kerry Collins will take over under center and that should bode well for a Houston Texans defense that remade itself in the shortened offseason.

As mean and as heartless as it sounds, everyone knows that is how everyone around the Texans franchise is feeling right now.
While the rest of the NFL world is feeling sorrowful having possibly lost the best player in the league for the year, the Texans are celebrating because they might actually win the division for the first time in their short history.
Without Manning, the Colts look like a team destined for a top-ten pick in the NFL draft, something that will be really weird for Indy fans next offseason.
The Texans should match up perfectly with the Colts, and should be able to shut them down as well as put major points on the board.
My only question is, can the Texans deal with the fact that they are now the favorite to win the division, and that they should win at least 11 games?
If they can indeed live up to this, then there should be nothing stopping them from running away with what is now the weakest division in football.
The Colts are 16-2 all-time against the Texans, though Houston won the matchup at home last season 34-24 behind 231 yards and three touchdowns from running back Arian Foster who led the NFL with 2,220 yards from scrimmage in 2010.
The odds makers have the Indianapolis Colts as a -1.5 point favorite with an over/under of 44.
Matt’s Prediction: Texans 31, Colts 10 – It isn’t going to be pretty, and Manning will have to sit back and watch as his team is humiliated in their first game of the season. Collins is far over the hill and will lose the game more than he will win it. The tides are changing in the NFL, and the loss of Manning will be a big contributor to that.
