Cleveland Browns 2010 NFL Record:4-12 Home: 3-5 Away: 1-7

Cleveland finished third in the AFC North last year with a 5-11 record. The Browns were 3-5 at home and 2-6 on the road. They went 1-5 in the division and 3-9 in the conference.

They failed to qualify for the postseason.

Cleveland Browns 2011 Preview

The Cleveland Browns have just two winning seasons in the last 13 years and last made the playoffs in 2002, but every preseason they continue to be one of those teams that appears to be on the cusp of a breakout year. Cleveland enters the 2011 season with Pat Shumar at the helm after team president Mike Holmgren decided he had enough of Eric Mangini. Shumar is an indirect disciple of Holmgren having spent time on Andy Reid’s coaching staff in Philadelphia, so these two should be on the same page right from the start.

The Browns have done a good job at adding some solid young talent to the offensive roster over the past few seasons and have a couple stars-in –the-making with quarterback Colt McCoy and running back Peyton Hillis. Last season, McCoy threw for 1,576 yards in eight starts as a rookie and Hillis led the team in rushing with 1,177 yards. Tight End Benjamin Watson was the team’s leading receiver last year with 68 catches for 763 yards, but look for second-round pick Greg Little to quickly make an impact at the wide receiver position.

Cleveland used this year’s draft to address some needs on the defensive line with the selection of Phil Taylor in the first round and Jabaal Sheard in the second. These two should help plug some holes on a squad that was ranked 27th in the NFL against the run last season. It also added defensive backs Dimitri Patterson, who was a free agent and Brett Johnson, who was claimed off waivers, to add some depth to the secondary.

McCoy is coming along faster than expected and the Browns have a solid running game behind Hillis, but the biggest thing in Cleveland’s favor this season is a schedule that includes games against the NFC West as well as Miami, Tennessee, and Jacksonville at home. The Browns may not be ready to unseat the likes of Pittsburgh and Baltimore in the division, but they are good enough to be a .500 team this season.
