Cincinnati Bengals 2010 NFL Record:4-12 Home: 3-5 Away: 1-7

Cincinnati finished fourth in the AFC North last year with a 4-12 record. The Bengals were 3-5 at home and 1-7 on the road. They went 2-4 in the division and 3-9 in the conference.

They failed to qualify for the postseason.

Cincinnati Bengals 2011 Preview

Cincinnati shocked the league in 2009 with a 10-6 record and AFC North title. The glory was short-lived and things returned to normal last season for a franchise that has won 10 or more games just eight times since the NFL-AFL merger in 1970. The prospect for this season is even more dismal as the Bengals suddenly find themselves a serious contender for the Andrew Luck sweepstakes in next year’s draft.

Gone are wide receivers Chad Ochocino and Terrell Owens, which in of itself is not necessarily a bad thing, but with Carson Palmer deciding to retire as opposed to playing quarterback for this team, Cincinnati has lost the three players responsible for the majority of the offensive production of a year ago.

It appears that head coach Marvin Lewis is content to turn the reins at quarterback over to second-round draft pick Andy Dalton, who was getting ready to start for the TCU Horned Frogs this time last year. His primary receivers will most likely be first-round pick A.J. Green and second-year vet Jordan Shipley. This trio should be something to watch a few years down the road, but the growing pains could be immense this season. The Bengals still have Cedric Benson to anchor the running game, but his best days could already be behind him.

Cincinnati’s defense finished the 2010 season ranked a respectable 15th overall, but it was ranked 24th in points allowed, giving up an average of 24.7 points a game. The Bengals added defensive lineman Dontay Moch in the third round of the draft and linebacker Manny Lawson and cornerback Nate Clements as free agents. They also just traded an undisclosed draft pick to San Francisco for safety Taylor Mays. While these acquisitions should help add some depth on this side of the ball, it is doubtful this squad will be much better than last season.

The prospects for any kind of quick turnaround from a four-win season look pretty bleak for Cincinnati, especially given the fact that the gap between itself and the rest of the teams in the division has actually gotten wider since last year.

Cincinnati Bengals 2011 Season Prediction
