Baltimore Ravens 2010 NFL Record:12-4 Home: 7-1 Away: 5-3
Baltimore finished second in the AFC North last year with a 12-4 record. The Ravens were 7-1 at home and 5-3 on the road. They went 4-2 in the division and 9-3 in the conference.
They lost to Pittsburgh 31-24 in the Divisional Round of the playoffs.
Baltimore Ravens 2011 Preview
Baltimore has been the perennial bridesmaid the past three seasons with three straight trips to the playoffs as a wildcard team. All three seasons have ended the same way; a bitter defeat on the road in either the first or second round. With pretty much the same cast back from last season’s 12-win team, this could be the season that head coach John Harbaugh and quarterback Joe Flacco finally put everything together to get over the hump and win the AFC North as well as possibly secure an all-important first-round bye in the postseason.
Flacco has come under heat for his performance in the playoffs over the past three seasons, but the three-year veteran out of Delaware has a chance to silence his critics with one of the most talented offenses the Ravens have fielded in the past few seasons. They added wide receiver Lee Evans through a trade with Buffalo to join second-round pick Torrey Smith and fourth-round pick Tandon Doss as the primary targets to go along with the No.1 receiver in the passing game, Anquan Boldin. Running back Ray Rice is ready to go after leading the team with 1,220 yards rushing in 2010. Rice was also the team’s second leading receiver in receptions with 63. His production could actually improve this season with the addition of fullback Vonte Leach, who was the lead blocker for Arian Foster’s breakout season in Houston last year.
Linebacker Ray Lewis is lacing them up for at least one more run at a world title as he enters his 16th and possibly final season in the NFL. The Ravens used their first pick in the draft to select cornerback Jimmy Smith, who should immediately make an impact in the secondary. They also signed defensive back Bernard Pollard to a two-year deal after spending the last two seasons with the Texans.
Baltimore will get a chance to make an immediate impact on the season when it hosts the Steelers on opening day. Getting by Pittsburgh in the division is the key to taking the next step towards a championship, so a chance to get an early leg-up on its nemesis could be crucial to the Ravens’ success this season.
