Baltimore Ravens 2010 Odds, Preview, and Predictions
Baltimore Ravens Current odds to win: Division: 10-11 Conference: 7-1 Super Bowl: 14-1
Baltimore was second in the AFC North last year with a 9-7 record. They were 6-2 at home and 3-5 on the road. They went 3-3 in the division and 7-5 in the conference.
They lost to Indianapolis 20-3 in the Divisional round of the playoffs.
Baltimore Ravens Outlook for 2010
Baltimore is probably the most talented team in the AFC North, but they need to play with a bit more consistency especially on the offensive side of the ball if they want to seriously contend with the top teams in the conference. Last season they sputtered down the stretch to barely make the playoffs. After an impressive win over New England on the road in the Wildcard round, the Colts were able to expose these inconsistencies in the next round, sending them to an early exit.
QB Joe Flacco is entering his third year and has all the tools to one of the top quarterbacks in the league. After the Ravens resigned WR’s Derrick Mason and Mark Clayton as well as traded with Arizona for Anquan Boldwin and drafted David Reed in the fourth round, he will have a decent flight of receivers to throw the ball to. Drafting TE Ed Dickson in the third round will provide an additional target especially in red zone situations. All told, these steps should go a long way toward improving a pass offense that was ranked 18th in the league last season.
With RB Ray Rice in the backfield, the Ravens will most likely remain a run oriented team. Last year he carried the ball 254 times for 1,339 yards ranking him sixth in the league. They also have Willis McGahee to help carry the load.
While LB Ray Lewis is still the team’s leader on the defensive side of the ball, he will be entering his 15th season with time not on his side. Baltimore also looked to the draft to bring in some younger defensive players to help bolster a unit that ended the season ranked 3rd overall. Their top pick DE/LB Sergio Kindle is expected to figure prominently in their plans from day one and could be a potential replacement for Lewis down the road.
The Ravens will be tested right from the start as they open up on the road against the Jets and play Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, and New England in the first six weeks. If they can come out of this stretch with a winning record, look for them to coast to the AFC North division title in 2010.
2010 Baltimore Ravens Prediction: 11-5, first place in the AFC North.
