Arizona Cardinals 2009 Preview, Picks, & Odds.

The 2008 season was an unbelievable year for the Arizona Cardinals, at the start of the season few envisioned and looked all the more impossible after stumbling late in the season. The Arizona Cardinals advanced all the way to Super Bowl XLIII, putting up a great fight against the Pittsburgh Steelers before eventually falling short. QB Kurt Warner led the team as former first round draft pick Matt Leinart watched from the sidelines. Larry Fitzgerald established himself to be one of the best, wide receiver in the National Football League. The receiving corps was sensational, with Fitzgerald, Anquan Boldin and Steve Breaston. The Arizona Cardinals Defense was skeptical for most of the season, although they managed to stop opponents when needed in the postseason. For the year, Arizona finished 28th in points allowed. However, the Cardinals finished 3rd in points scored, and outscored their opponents by just one point over the length of the season, 427-426.

ARIZONA CARDINALS 2009 PREVIEW

The Arizona Cardinals are coming off their best season in franchise history in winning the NFC title and playing in one of the better Super Bowls in recent memory, which makes the 2009 Arizona Cardinals Preview look very hopeful. They barely missed winning it all last year and have high hopes going into the 2009 Arizona Cardinals Season. Head Coach Ken Whinsenhunt is going into his third season as Head Coach and so far has exceeded all expectations. Departed Offensive Coordinator Todd Haley, who left to become Head Coach of the Kansas City Chiefs, has shaken up the responsibilities on the coaching staff going into this season. Russ Grimm is the Assistant Head Coach, Running Game Coordinator, and Offensive Line Coach. Mike Miller is the Passing Game Coordinator this season and Bill Davis will be the Defensive Coordinator.

2009 ARIZONA CARDINALS OFFENSE:

Kurt Warner is still an Arizona Cardinals, which is great news for the offense that thrived in 2008. Matt Leinart will really need to be spectacular to win the job away from Warner, and even then it might not be readily given up. With the cast of wide receivers the attack is lethal, although Anquan Boldin is still unhappy with his contract situation and was nearly traded during the off season. The arrival of rookie running back Chris Beanie Wells from Ohio State should make the offense more complete and versatile. The Cardinals will definitely be able to put points on the board in big numbers, but will the defense be able to hold opponents down?

2009 ARIZONA CARDINALS DEFENSE:

The Arizona Cardinals defense has not changed much from last year’s, which is not a good thing for the club’s chances. The Cardinals offense can outscore most opponents and should be even stronger than last year with Wells, but the defense needs to show some of the buckling down ability they flashed at times during the playoffs. Adrian Wilson, Antrel Rolle and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie make for a sensationally talented and athletic defensive backfield. But more consistency in coverage is needed. Linebackers Karlos Dansy and defensive end Chike Okeafor need to step up, as the team lost defensive end Antonio Smith to free agency.
